Keith Olbermann on Bank of America and their Bailout SPENDING (Video)

Obama said some banks won't make it. And he also indicated that if this (economy) is not turning around by year 3, he acknowledges that he will be a ONE TERM PRESIDENT. Again, the economy is in Obama's lap now, Bush is out of office and you can't beat a dead horse. This is now Obama's Watch.

A tip for the banks, y'all need to get a PR FIRM because you are losing on the spin tip. If you continue to spend like everyone in America got a JOB and SPENDING money, you will soon not get a dime from the government again. If you think the public is not paying attention or not angry, THINK AGAIN. Get a PR face because y'all need it. for real.

It's official, Senator Judd Gregg for Commerce Secretary

Even Claire McCaskill said he was going to be nominated tomorrow on Rachel Maddow's show.

President Barack Obama will nominate Republican Sen. Judd Gregg as commerce secretary, a White House official confirmed Monday.

The announcement was set for Tuesday morning, said the official, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

Gregg is a New Hampshire senator who would be the third Republican to join Obama's Cabinet, if confirmed. The others are Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Transportation Secretary Ray Lahood.

Earlier Monday, Gregg revealed an apparent deal by which his Senate seat would stay out of Democratic hands if he were nominated.

"I have made it clear to the Senate leadership on both sides of the aisle and to the governor that I would not leave the Senate if I felt my departure would cause a change in the makeup of the Senate," Gregg said in a statement.

In other words a seat warmer for Gregg's seat and it will be wide open for 2010.

Senate Confirms Eric Holder as U.S. Attorney General

About time. Not only is this change we can believe in, but change we NEED.

We need an individual to clean up that mess that Alberto Gonzalez, George W. Bush and Dick Cheney left.

The Senate voted to confirm Eric Holder as attorney general Monday evening, making President Barack Obama's choice the nation's first African-American to hold the job.

Though debate quickly turned partisan when his chief supporter denounced Republicans who sought a pledge not to prosecute intelligence agents who participated in harsh interrogations, the Senate still confirmed Holder as expected.

The vote was 75-21 for Holder's confirmation.

Even Spector came on board.
Despite the partisan beginning, the ranking Republican on the Judiciary Committee, Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, said Holder made mistakes but was well-qualified for the job and should be confirmed.

Obama will be in Springfield, IL on February 12th for Lincoln Celebration

Yes, coming back to the Land of Lincoln.

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) today announced that President Barack Obama has accepted his invitation to celebrate the 200th Anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln's birth in Springfield, Illinois. Obama will attend the Abraham Lincoln Association's annual Lincoln birthday banquet, which is scheduled for February 12, 2009. Durbin began working with the Obama transition team on this invitation just days after the election last November.

"Abraham Lincoln's legacy is deeply rooted in his home state of Illinois," said Durbin. "Last week, our state proudly looked to Washington once again as another son of Illinois took the presidential oath of office. As our country's economic challenges grow, President Barack Obama will be called on to show leadership and courage similar to that shown by Lincoln during one of the most difficult periods in our history. I am honored to have the opportunity to welcome our new President back to Springfield for this important celebration of Lincoln's life."

Macy's Slashed 7,000 Jobs with Video

More bad news for retail.

Macy's said about 7,000 jobs -- about 4% of its total employee base -- would be eliminated as part of an effort to save $250 million this year and $400 million annually starting in 2010.

The Macy's board also approved a 62% reduction in its quarterly dividend, down to 5 cents a share from the current payout of 13.25 cents, while the company commenced a tender offer to redeem $950 million in debt set to mature later this year.

The company cited "current economic conditions and expectations for lower sales in 2009" as precipitating the moves.

Not surprising for retail. Folks who have money are not spending, those without money are looking for a job. This is called a vicious circle.

Off Topic: Wow, Comcast interrupted the SuperBowl for, um, a little pornography

No shyte!!

I had to post this because I am screaming with laughter. I am not a Comcast fan, in fact in the Chicagoland area there have been quite a few rapes, beatings from those posing as Comcast installers. But I don't care for Comcast because, well for me, they suck. What do I have? DirecTv, but that is another story I can write. Now for Comcast and the folks in Tuscon, Arizona:

Comcast believes the pornography that interrupted its feed of the Super Bowl Sunday night was the result of foul play, a company spokeswoman said Monday morning.

“Our initial investigation suggests this was an isolated malicious act,” spokeswoman Kelle Maslyn said in a statement emailed to the Star. “We are mortified by last evening’s Super Bowl interruption and we apologize to our customers. We are conducting a thorough investigation to determine how this happened.”

Now this happened towards the end of the game, which would have pissed me off because the game went to the wire.
The pornography clip was from Club Jenna, an adult cable television channel.

The Arizona Daily Star newsroom was flooded with calls from irate viewers who said that the porn cut into the game with less than three minutes left to play, just after Arizona Cardinals player Larry Fitzgerald scored on a touchdown pass from Kurt Warner to put the team in the lead.

Callers said that the clip showed a woman unzipping a man’s pants, followed by a graphic act between the two.

Sorry, Comcast would owe me free cable for a YEAR. With children watching the SuperBowl and interrupted by all THAT!! Comcast would owe me cable for a year, that is disgusting.

Obama stands by Daschle for Secretary of Heath and Human Services (Video)

Even though Daschle is riddled with tax problems, which are now paid, Obama stands by him.

My take, Daschle will be confirmed, beaten up some, but confirmed. He is a typical Washington, DC type that has political friends that let him have the use of a car and driver for three years, and he (Daschle) thought nothing of it. Sure, many can question, "Well if he had that for three years, what does the political friend want in return?" Good question, because in political life you don't get something for nothing, but hey, as Daschle claims he was just a friend and loaned his services for three years to Daschle. Fair, he could be just a friend, but who is believing that.

The bottom line is this, of all people who understand what is required for these committees and how these committees scrutinized nominees, Daschle knows better. Again, what is with rich folk and not paying taxes? When we, average joes and joesettas, can't get the tax man off of us when we owe. Just sayin'.

Does Daschle needs to be confirmed? Yes. He is the pivot needed for getting health care reform passed. He understands the congress, knows health care, knows how the legislative process goes, and we, in the end, need him to be confirmed.

Desiree Rogers on being the White House Social Secretary (Audio)

From NPR:

At the White House Thursday, President Barack Obama held a signing ceremony for a new law aimed at halting age, race or gender discrimination in the workplace. The signing was followed by a reception hosted by the first lady.

Invited lawmakers and dignitaries munched on fruit and pastries. Somewhere in the background, a tall woman was making sure everything was just so in the state dining room — from the yellow orchids on the tables to the apricot coffee cake.

Her name is Desiree Rogers and she is the new White House social secretary, responsible for planning events from state dinners to the annual Easter egg roll.

Rogers comes to the White House armed with a Harvard MBA, a long resume in the corporate world and a keen knowledge of the first family's tastes as a longtime member of their Chicago inner circle.

"One of the things that is very important to the president and the first lady is that the art be reflective of all Americans," Rogers says. "And so one of the things that's already being looked at is the possibility of how can we diversify the art collection."

David Duke calls Michael Steele a "Black Racist", this is the Republican Party

h/t jjp

GOP traitors appoint Obama Junior as Chairman of the Republican Party

Damn, Damn, DAMN!!! When I read this hotmess over at Jack and Jill Politics, I was like WTF!!! But, after you sit back and read David Duke, the reality is this, "that is the Rush Limbaugh part of the party". This is the part that called Obama a terrorist and everything else under the sun during the McCain/Palin rallies. This is what many Americans saw on television and turned it off with disgust. But, again that is the reality of the Republican Party. This is a hard right party, Michael Steele is a moderate republican who happens to be black. The only thing left for the Republican Party are the sentiments of the Rush Limbaughs and David Dukes who rile up the worst in many Americans, but offer nothing in solutions but never fail to dish up more hate and rhetoric.

This is what the Republican Party has ran on since the Nixon Southern Strategy in the late 60s. This worked well, but the problem is that America is a huge melting pot and the minorities by 2024 will be the majority, not White America. The Republican Party has alienated many that are non-white so hard, that it will take many years, possibly decades for them to make in-roads again. In other words, the David Dukes and Rush Limbaughs only address a small part of America and that America did not make a difference at the ballot box in November.

Read David Duke, here:

When a reporter for the Washington Post interviewed me on the appointment, this is what I said:

I am glad these traitorous leaders of the Republican Party appointed this Black racist, affirmative action advocate to the head of the Republican party because this will lead to a huge revolt among the Republican base. As a former Republican official, I can tell you that millions of rank-and-file Republicans are mad as hell and aren’t going to take it anymore! We will either take the Republican Party back over the next four years or we will say, “To Hell With the Republican Party!” And we will take 90 percent of Republicans with us into a New Party that will take its current place!

I think the insanity of nominating “Mr. Amnesty” John McCain and now this Black racist — will lead to insurgency in the Republican ranks, and a lot of dissidents getting elected in Republican Party primaries around the country. This will result over the next four years a real move by millions of Republicans to take the party back to the populist issues that are not only right but can win for the Republican Party. We must end affirmative action, protect our gun rights and all our constitutional rights, have a moratorium on immigration, we must have protectionism, yes I said protect American businesses and their workers from NAFTA and GATT and the lie of free trade, and we must have America First, not foreign interventionism. Our boys should be home protecting the American borders a not being murdered on the borders of Iraq or Afghanistan. The time has come for Republican Party to stand up to Obama and defend American heritage, rights, and freedom!

This is what the Republican Party and Michael Steele have to deal with. The GOP let this slide for years because race baiting worked, now after getting obliterated in November and saw that minority voters made a huge impact, they NOW are looking for anyone with COLOR to throw up there as "the Republican Leader" too. It is the Dukes and Limbaughs that took the independents, middle away from them and that is how they lost in November. But they can't see that, how can they with people like Duke in their party!!! They are in a bad way, for a very long time.

Keeping the Obamas Grounded

It will be hard. Especially when you are the goldfish with everyone's eyes on you in the bowl, but they are trying.

First, President Obama keeps his blackberry, which I knew he would. As I stated before, this is 2009 not 1989, and any encryption is warranted. To give up access to his friends, who will be honest, while the White House aides won't (let's be honest here, they won't) is important. Having contact to the outside is critical, whether the outside likes what Obama is doing as President or not, he needs to know.

Next, the President's family and friends are critical to who not only he is, but who his family is. Bringing his mother-in-law to the White House was a stablizing force for Michelle and the girls. Seems like Marian Robinson is slowly coming to grips of living in the White House.

To help him adjust to Washington, President Obama has lifted an entire network of unassuming friends and in-laws from the South Side into the capital's stratosphere. None of them has been more suddenly transported than Robinson, 71, who has moved from the walk-up home where she spent 40 years to the historic mansion at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. She has a room on the third floor, one level up from the Obamas, with a four-poster bed, a walk-in closet, a television set and a small sitting area for guests. She can walk down the hall to visit Malia and Sasha in their playroom, where the girls will spend as much time with their Nintendo Wii as Grandma allows. Or she can step over to the solarium to read on a plush couch or gaze out the bay windows, with their sweeping views of the Washington Monument and the city beyond.

It it this part of the article that really makes you understand President Obama and how his family and friends are center of who he is.
Obama generally shied away from new friendships during his political ascendancy, preferring the company of the people who had babysat his daughters and thrown his birthday parties -- people who would retell familiar jokes. As the state senator became a U.S. senator and waged a successful campaign for the presidency, the extended network provided a cocoon of normalcy. Now, as extended first family, the friends and in-laws wonder: Can normalcy ever be re-created?

"The way [the Obamas] got this far was with support from all of these people in Chicago," said Wilson, the godmother, who works as an artist and consultant in Olympia Fields, Ill. "They always had people to depend on, friends who watched the girls and took care of things so some part of their life could stay the same. That group has to stick together. We have to find a way to make their lives comfortable in Washington."

But the place holder of keeping them together has been Marian Robinson.
Until last week, the family nexus had remained 700 miles to the west, at a two-story house on Euclid Street in Chicago's South Shore neighborhood. Robinson and her husband, Fraser, rented a small apartment on the house's second floor from an aunt, who lived downstairs. As toddlers, their children, Michelle and Craig, shared a large bedroom. It was a tidy home in a predominantly black, working-class neighborhood -- safe and affordable -- and Marian Robinson loved it. She sent Michelle and Craig to the elementary school down the block and took them to South Shore Methodist Church across the street.

In that house, she raised two future Ivy League students, cared for her dying aunt and sick husband, and lived alone as a widow for almost two decades. She parked on the street and shoveled snow off her sidewalk. In the winter, she played the piano or watched home improvement shows on an aging television surrounded by pictures of four generations of her family. On summer days, she read the entire newspaper and then worked crosswords and other puzzles on her brick sun porch.

This is why grandma's are so important.
After Obama announced plans to run for president in February 2007, the extended family worked to adapt. Marian, who had never before wanted to retire, quit her job so she could watch over Malia and Sasha and sometimes spent the night at their home in Hyde Park while the Obamas campaigned. She listened to the girls' morning piano practice and then ferried them to school, tennis, gymnastics, dance and drama -- a modern parenting schedule that sometimes made Marian yearn for actual retirement, she joked.

Still, she loved being around her grandchildren, and she insisted on watching them rather than hiring a babysitter. In the Robinson family, nobody relied too heavily on babysitters. With dozens of aunts, uncles and cousins nearby, Marian thought, why would you?

And with Robinson being independent all these years, I was not surprised at her hesitancy to move into the White House.
Marian adapted to one change at a time, steadfastly refusing to look ahead. While other family members predicted an Obama victory, Marian remained skeptical until election night. She hesitated to move into the White House -- it would be like living in a museum, she once said -- until she visited in November and saw her room. Even when she finally decided to leave Chicago, Marian told friends the move might only be temporary. She would stay in Washington as long as the family needed her, she said, and probably no longer.

"She's 71 years old, you know, and I wouldn't say she's set in her ways, but she certainly was comfortable in them," said Craig Robinson, Marian's son. "Moving, even if she had to move just downtown from where we lived in Chicago, it would have been a little bit of a daunting task to get her arms around. I don't think I'm telling any tales out of school when I say that she had to think hard about going to the White House. She knew it was going to be a serious change."

And don't worry about Malia's twists in her hair, her godmother will be a monthly fixture at the White House for that.
Kaye Wilson, godmother to both Obama daughters, will visit about once a month to cook family favorites and twist Malia's hair.

I never mastered the corn rows or twists, but my sister has and loves Malia's twists in her hair. This is a low key family with friends who love them unconditionally. That alone is half the battle won in the White House. Because we know, everything else is just political.
