If you don't believe that Evan Bayh is running for POTUS in 2016 watch this video
Monday, February 15, 2010
Senator Evan Bayh (D-IN) retiring or leaving or both
This is a shock. He polls ok, or better than ok, in Indiana. He is blaming partisan politics for retiring. I don't know if I by all this, but Bayh did not let the President nor Senate Leader Harry Reid know he was retiring before releasing his statement. That tells you a lot.
Sen. Evan Bayh, an Indiana Democrat prominently mentioned in connection with the White House in recent years, is ready to announce he won't seek re-election, saying he's fed up with Congress.
"To put it in the words most Hoosiers can understand: I love working for the people of Indiana, I love helping our citizens make the most of their lives, but I do not love Congress," Bayh said in comments prepared for an announcement later Monday in Indianapolis. His statement was obtained by The Associated Press from a Democratic official who declined to be named publicly.
Bayh's departure continues a recent exodus from Congress among both Democrats and Republicans, including veteran Democrats Christopher Dodd of Connecticut and Patrick Kennedy of Mass. The announcements have sprung up in rapid-fire fashion amid polls showing a rising anti-incumbent fervor and voter anger over Washington partisanship, high unemployment, federal deficits and lucrative banking industry bonuses.
Look for this seat to lean Republican, bad news for Obama and the Democrats. And no, I am not an Evan Bayh fan but politically this is disastrous for the Democrats.

Senator Richard Lugar (R-IN) will vote to confirm Judge Sonia Sotomayor
Lugar statement on Judge Sotomayor
U.S. Sen. Dick Lugar released the following statement on the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to be Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court:
“I have listened to the testimony of Judge Sonia Sotomayor before the Senate Judiciary Committee, carefully reviewed her public service record, and reviewed recommendations from Indiana constituents and colleagues here in the Senate. Judge Sotomayor is clearly qualified to serve on the Supreme Court and she has demonstrated a judicial temperament during her week-long nomination hearing. Judge Sotomayor has had a distinguished career of public service. She is well regarded in the legal community and by her peers. I will vote to confirm Judge Sonia Sotomayor’s nomination to serve as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.”

700 people opened their wallets in Indiana at Obama Fundraiser
They opened up the wallets for Obama and the Democrats.
In fact, about 700 friends opened their billfolds Sunday night to support Democrats as Obama made his first post-election visit to the Circle City.
His quick tour of the Westin hotel Downtown lasted less than half an hour, but the president managed to reel in hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign cash for the Democratic National Committee and four incumbents in Congress. The precise amount raised was not immediately available.
After leaping onto a ballroom stage in front of 650 people who dined on honey chicken breasts, cheesecake and champagne orzo, Obama proclaimed, "It's good to be back in Indiana."
[snip]
Flanked on stage by Reps. Andre Carson, Joe Donnelly, Brad Ellsworth and Baron Hill, Obama said he needed Indiana voters to re-elect their Democratic incumbents so he can continue to push his agenda of change.
"I can't rebuild our economy, reform our health-care and education system and preserve our environment and keep our nation safe if I'm all alone in the Oval Office," he said. "I need partners in Congress, people who are going to work hard every day to move this country forward."
About 650 people paid between $250 and $5,000 to hear Obama's 15-minute speech and support the four congressmen.
Then he spent some time with couples that paid $15,000 for the DNC.
Does anyone smell 2010? Mid-term elections?

Obama to visit Indiana and Florida for stimulus push
This visit, coupled with a national news conference on Monday Night, 7PM/CST on all major channels, is all about pushing this stimulus package and making the American Public understand the sense of urgency to pass the stimulus bill.
President Barack Obama plans to participate in town hall-style meetings next week in two cities that have struggled amid the crumbling economy.
White House spokesman Robert Gibbs on Friday said Obama plans to visit Elkhart, Ind., on Monday to tell residents what the roughly $900 billion stimulus plan would mean for them. Obama's original proposal was in the range of $800 billion, but the Senate's version has grown to more than $900 billion.
The president also plans a Tuesday trip to Fort Myers, Fla., to try to sell his economic recovery plan, which is being hashed over in Congress.
Indiana's Elkhart-Goshen region saw its unemployment rate soar to 15.3 percent in December.
In Florida's Fort Myers, unemployment has climbed to 10 percent.

Obama Late Afternoon Break. Polls, Polls, Polls, and Obama on Columbian Lotto Tickets.
Barack in Leesburg, Virginia
••
Polls, Polls, Polls
The most shocking poll out today is from the Big Ten: Battleground.
This poll has Obama up huge.
The other poll is Quinnipiac for FL, OH, PA.
I am half optimistic and half pessimistic. I have to be with polling all over the place here.
First off, I believe Obama is ahead, period. But do I believe he is ahead by 10 points in Indiana? NO. Will he win Indiana? If he does, it will be a squeaker. Also, I do not believe Obama is ahead in Ohio by double digits. Are these polls reliable? Over all, to me, so-so.
Many polling organizations have different metrics on establishing, weighing the information. It is how the information is weighed to determine the percentage size and MOE (Margin of Error). More information on this is to my right under 538, Nate runs it down on his site.
The bottom line is this, don't get complacent and think or even believe that we "got this". Again, we don't have anything until the actual votes are counted. We must remain diligent, continue to work hard for the Obama Campaign to win on November 4th. Nothing should be taken for granted at this point. Again, NOTHING.
Continue to encourage and work the EGOTV (Early Get Out the Vote), continue to phone bank, and GOTV on November 4th. The only way to win the electoral college is to win the states, first.
Lastly, as Obama has said, "Remember, New Hampshire." Keep that in mind before we believe that we "got this."

What If John McCain Loses?
I was struck by a newspaper banner headline this morning – "McCain lambastes the Bush years" – subhead: "We just let things get completely out of hand." The story says that in an interview with the newspaper's reporter, Sen. John McCain "lashed out at a litany of Bush policies and issues that he said he would have handled differently."
Well, you say, no wonder, the Arizona Republican is struggling to separate himself from President Bush in an effort to appeal to Independents. Yes, that certainly does appear to be what he ought to do, but the problem here is, the newspaper I'm quoting from is the Washington Times, a conservative paper which is read not by Independents, but by the Republican base, which isn't all that unhappy with Bush. continue
••
McCain moving money from "Kerry States" to defend "Bush States"
Many have wondered why McCain is wasting time and money in Iowa? Well, Iowa was a Bush state in 2004. McCain's path to 270 is narrow, which means he must win the Bush states.
I believe that McCain is moving, slashing resources to pour into Pennsylvania and to defend Florida and Ohio. Pennsylvania? Yes, he needs Pennsylvania to win because the toss up states are too many to defend. Virginia, North Carolina and Indiana were not toss up states in 2004, which means if Obama wins one of these, McCain must win the rest of the Bush states, plus Pennsylvania. While Obama's path is more broad, meaning he can lose Ohio and Florida and still win the White House.
In another sign that John McCain is on the defensive as time runs out, the McCain campaign is shifting its ad money out of blue tossup states and into red tossups and even traditionally red states, an analysis today by ad maven Evan Tracey finds.
McCain has dramatically slashed his ad spending in Wisconsin and New Hampshire and reduced it in Pennsylvania, suggesting that he's either losing hope or giving up hope in winning in three states that went for John Kerry in 2004, or that he doesn't have ample enough resources for them.
He's also reduced his spending in Colorado, which went for Bush but is showing a lead for Obama, suggesting he may be losing hope there, too. continue
••
Obama on the LOTTO TICKETS in Columbia!!!
No, Shyte!!
Barack Obama stands to win not only the White House -- according to recent US opinion polls -- but also the lottery in Mesa, Colombia, where his face now graces all the lottery tickets in the city.
"We picked Obama's portrait for our lottery because we're always looking for somebody people are raving about. He's ahead in (US) opinion polls and right now he's the most popular guy around here," Mesa Lottery manager Luis Enciso told AFP.
He said Democrat Obama's picture helped sell more lottery tickets.
"We'd never think of using John McCain," Enciso said referring to Obama's Republican rival in the November 4 US presidential election.
"McCain has the look of somebody who's standoffish, unpleasant and tiresome, a copy of (US President) George W. Bush. We'd never use him."

Transcript of Obama's Speech: "Enough is Enough"
Sen. Barack Obama has just finished his political rally, exhorting a crowd of thousands in Downtown Indianapolis to vote Democratic and make Indiana a "blue state" for the first time since the 1964 presidential election.
The Democratic presidential nominee told the crowd his economic policies would protect the rights of working Americans while restoring balance and fairness to the tax code. He blasted the approach of his Republican rival, Sen. John McCain as amounting to "Wall Street first, Main Street last." continue

Reflection the Democratic Convention
First off, this was one of the best staged conventions that I watched on television in years. Usually, these conventions are boring, but not this year. In fact the ratings were off the chain from Monday to Thursday. It averaged 30 million viewers a night. These numbers are huge for a political event and proves that the public is getting engaged.
From the surprise speech of Ted Kennedy; to the passionate plea of Michelle Obama; to the "set the record straight" speech of Hillary Clinton; to the "Yes he can, but first you got to vote for him" speech of Bill Clinton; to the introduction of Joe Biden; and to the final climax of the best convention speech given in modern day history by Barack Obama, it was a smash.
Some other speeches I fondly remember is Governor Schweitzer of Montana, this was the one speech my husband said, "should have been the keynote address." John Kerry's peeling the onion of John McCain and George W. Bush made me wish he was like that in 2004. Senator Bob Casey stating we don't need four more years, we can't take four more months. The democrats followed the lead of Obama with the ending being a convention to be talked about for years to come.
Job well done, Democrats.

McCain, Lobbyists, DHL and Ohio
Many, including moi have been critical of the Obama Campaign’s tepid response when it comes to the McCain television ads.
Press releases only go so far, we are a country that believes in winners and losers. Period.
But I have stepped back and decided to put on my “wait and see hat”. John McCain must attempt, read again folks, attempt to define Barack Obama as an “empty suit politician”, thus all the “Celebrity” ads that have come out. The question is this, “Have these ads worked?” Yes and No. Yes for keeping McCain close in the polls and No for overtaking Obama in the polls.
Now we are seeing strategy unfold. The first shot across the bow is the fine, but stern needle that the Obama Campaign has woven connecting the dots of McCain’s campaign manager and McCain as critical allies of DHL’s merger in the loss of thousands of jobs in Ohio.
The shot was a radio ad that the Obama Campaign released in Ohio on Friday. The ad is blistering, on point and makes one pause. More importantly, this ad has McCain’s Campaign shaking in its shoes and it should. Listen to the ad, here. The McCain Campaign is in a tizzy and they should be. John McCain has 30 years of a muddled record and message. All of this is about to be exposed by the Obama Campaign.
Many don’t get this, me included, until I listened to the ad on Friday. I still have to remind myself that many Americans are not paying attention to this election. I know, I have 2 nieces packing up for college and my brother and sister are not paying attention. Many of us that follow every noun and verb of these candidates are in a minority, not the majority. The Obama Campaign is doing the right thing. They are responding when necessary but on the down low. Why show your hand when no one is there to respect it?
The DHL travesty is the beginning. John McCain doesn’t want Ohioans thinking about this, but they are. Jobs, many jobs are at stake. Many lost and many more will be lost due to this merger. While McCain is busy with Brittney and Paris, he need to scour through his horrific record because that onion is about to be peeled.

Barack and the Buck
The underreported economic news of the week is that Barack Obama favors a stronger dollar. Even better, he thinks a stronger greenback would help to reduce oil prices.
That at least is what the Democratic Presidential candidate told a town hall forum in Parma, Ohio, on Tuesday. "If we had a strengthening of the dollar, that would help" reduce fuel costs, he said, according to a Reuters dispatch ignored by most of the media.
This ought to be a bigger story. In linking the dollar to oil prices, Mr. Obama is pointedly at odds with the Bush Administration and Federal Reserve, both of which blame high commodity prices on supply and demand, despite falling demand due to slower global growth. Fed officials -- in particular, Vice Chairman Donald Kohn -- have expressly rejected any strong link between the dollar's collapse and the oil price surge since last August.
This conveniently absolves the Fed and Bush Treasury of responsibility for the consequences of what has been their destructive and all but explicit dollar devaluation strategy. If the Illinois Senator rejects greenback debasement, that's the best news to date about Obamanomics. continue

icebergslim’s last word: abc and the atrocious cokie roberts
I have never been an ABC fan. In fact growing up, all my favorite shows were on CBS or NBC.
So, today I decided to listen to the George Stephanopoulos show on ABC this morning, but only the round table. Everything went well, talked about the War in Georgia, the John Edwards mess, and then Barack Obama and his vacation.
What came out of the elder Roberts mouth made me and my husband pause. Roberts actually had the gall to criticize Obama for going to Hawaii. Roberts stated that he should not have gone on an “exotic” vacation and should have gone to Myrtle Beach. Can we all say (rolleyes) here?
Cokie obviously has been sitting on her rump in Washington, D.C. too long and don’t know or understand the Obama family. Since she does not, let me take her down the memory lane. Barack Obama was born in the STATE OF HAWAII. Yes, Roberts, Hawaii is the 50th state of the union. Next, both of Barack Obama’s parents are dead. His only living parent that he looks to is his grandmother, Madelyn Dunham who raised him with her late husband and lives in Hawaii. Mrs. Dunham is suffering from debilitating osteoporosis and she is immoveable.
For Cokie Roberts to come out so uppity and slight towards the Obama vacation is unbelievable. More importantly her non-compassion about the vacation reeked of pure cynicism. The fact is that Obama has not seen his grandmother in over 18 months and she is in advanced age, late 80s. This is another cold and callous reminder of these so-called “news journalists” who speak off the top of their heads without thinking.
Lastly, I am sure Roberts have been to Hawaii, she can afford it. A tip to you, I am sure the residents of Hawaii looked at your statements with full displeasure. Your non-carishness is just a reminder why many don’t watch ABC to this day.
Just save your point of irrelevant view Roberts, you are too old and have been around too long to come off sounding like a shriveled, misinformed lunatic. And yes, that is what you sounded like today.

Evening Wrap Up...Obama out of Indiana, in Minnesota...Iraq record oil profits.....
obama in portage, indiana
Obama in Indiana Pictures
::
Why are we still rebuilding Iraq when they are sitting on about 80B in oil profits?
That is the question, which the Bush Administration can not answer, but I can.
Simple, their cronies have harbored all those contracts in Iraq (i.e., Blackwater, Haliburton, KBR, etc.) and have made record profit off the backs of our taxes, our money.
That is why.
And Iraqi Authorities have been smart. Why should they shell over any money to rebuild anything, when it was the United States of America who entered this country illegally, anyway?
So, in the end it is the American public stuck with the tax bag, again. And it brings us back to the first question, why are we still paying to rebuild a country while they are sitting on a sack of money?
The Iraqi government could end the year with as much as a $79 billion budget surplus as ever-increasing oil revenues pile on top of leftover income the Iraqis still haven't spent on their national rebuilding effort, congressional auditors say.
A report by the Government Accountability Office made public Tuesday prompted renewed calls from senators that Baghdad pay more of the bill for its own reconstruction, which has been heavily supported with U.S. funds.
The projected Iraq surplus, including unspent money from 2005 through 2008, has been building because of rising world oil prices, increasing Iraqi oil production, the government's inability to execute budgets for spending its money and persistent violence in the country, the GAO said. continue
