Protestor against President Obama shows up with a gun, YES.HE.DID. for NH town hall meeting (Video)

This is NO JOKE and again, DANGEROUS. GOP allowing this kind of scare tactics is totally irresponsible.

MSNBC just aired footage of the crowd gathering at the Obama town hall meeting on health care that's supposed to start later today in New Hampshire and pointed out one man in a group holding protest signs with a gun in a holster on his hip. Apparently not a law officer, but a civilian.

Whatever the concealed carry laws in New Hampshire, you have to figure guns not allowed at a presidential event. Right?

Late Update: Also important to note, the gun-toting protestor was holding a sign referencing the Jefferson quote: "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants." It's a well known quote from one of the archetypal founding fathers. And in itself it's part of the American heritage, something that echoes with Jefferson's always ambivalent and frequently dilettantish attitude toward political violence. But in the context of these townhall excesses and while carrying a firearm at a presidential event, it's quite a menacing statement, in as much as it is about the need to kill tyrants. -- jmm

I am for gun rights, a gun owner, but I do not understand the logic of anyone carrying a gun to a presidential visit. Can anyone explain that to me?

Obama holding town hall meeting in Grand Junction, Colorado

And guess what? NO SCREENING, as many of the Republicans are doing for their town hall meetings, like Senator David (I love prostitutes and wearing diapers!!) Vitter (R-LA).

Mr. Obama plans to hold the town-hall meetings Tuesday in Portsmouth, N.H., Friday in Bozeman, Mont., and Saturday in Grand Junction, Colo. A White House official said participants wouldn't be screened to keep out opponents.

Mr. Obama, who has previously focused on cutting overall health spending, will now emphasize how the legislation would fix three specific problems, according to the White House official. An overhaul would end the practice of denying insurance coverage to people with a pre-existing illness; keep people from losing their coverage if they get sick; and protect Americans who face high out-of-pocket medical costs, the official said Mr. Obama would say.

The White House has been upstaged in recent days by a series of congressional town-hall meetings that turned rowdy after attendees shouted questions about the president's top domestic-policy priority. The official said cabinet members and other advisers would be dispatched to echo the president's message about fixing the three problems. read more here....

NH gay marriage all the way!!!

It has been worked out and Governor Lynch signed it into law.

Gay marriage legislation became law in New Hampshire this afternoon.

Gov. John Lynch signed the bills just after 5:20 p.m. before dozens of enthusiastic supporters of same-sex marriage.

New Hampshire's law takes effect Jan. 1.

HB 73, compromise legislation demanded by the governor, was passed by a vote of 14-10 in the Senate and 198-176 in the House today. HB 73 (text), was an add-on to the gay marriage bill itself, HB 436 (text), and to HB 310 (text), which made technical changes to the main bill.

HB 73 clarifies the rights of religious organizations and their employees to refuse to participate in same-sex marriage ceremonies or celebrations. It states that religious groups have exclusive control over doctrine, teaching and beliefs on who can marry within theirfaiths.

The House refused to go along with the Lynch language protecting religion two weeks ago, failing to pass the measure by a single vote.

Some who voted against it at the time said the House was being asked to agree to changes without being given enough time to examine them.

House opponents aired the same complaints today, but the tide had shifted.

"The House has always taken the time to consider the unintended consequences of any bill," said Rep. Betsey Patten, R-Moultonborough.

Supporters of the bill said the new language protects religious beliefs and individual rights.

"Let's vote this one last time. Church and state should be separate," said Rep. Anthony DiFruscia, R-Windham, who helped craft the final compromise language.

Senator Judd Gregg (R-NH) withdraws name for Commerce Secretary

Per MSNBC.

From the AP:

Republican Sen. Judd Gregg of New Hampshire abruptly withdrew his nomination as commerce secretary Thursday, citing "irresolvable conflicts" with President Barack Obama's handling of the economic stimulus and 2010 census.

"We are functioning from a different set of views on many critical items of policy," Gregg said in a statement released by his Senate office.

Gregg, 61, is a former New Hampshire governor who previously served in the House. He has been in the Senate since 1993 and currently serves as the top Republican on the Senate Budget Committee, where he is known as a crusader against big spending.

He was Obama's second choice to fill the Commerce portfolio.

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson withdrew several weeks ago in the wake of a grand jury investigation into alleged wrongdoing involving state contracts. He has not been implicated personally.

In his statement, Gregg thanked Obama for the nomination, and said, "I especially admire his willingness to reach across the aisle."

In citing the stimulus and census, he said, "Prior to accepting this post, we had discussed these and other potential differences, but unfortunately we did not adequately focus on these concerns. We are functioning from a different set of views on many critical items of policy."

And Gregg will not run for re-election in 2010:
In a conference call with reporters on Thursday to discuss his withdrawal from the Commerce Secretary nomination, Gregg also said he did not intend to run for reelection in 2010.

OK, Now, Senator Judd Gregg is a candidate for Commerce Secretary

OK, this was the rumor last night, now out of the horse's mouth.

Senator Judd Gregg, Republican of New Hampshire, confirmed on Friday that he is, indeed, in the mix of prospective candidates to serve as Commerce Secretary in the Obama administration.

“I am aware that my name is one of those being considered by the White House for Secretary of Commerce, and am honored to be considered, along with others, for the position,” Mr. Gregg said in a statement. “Beyond that, there is nothing more I can say at this time.”

Put it this way, if Gregg was not interested in this job, he would have SAID THAT. Now typing this, I take it he is interested in this job.

I laid out last night why HE SHOULD take it. But what will Governor Lynch do?
One of several unresolved questions surrounding this story: Would New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch, a Democrat, consider replacing Mr. Gregg in the Senate with a Republican? That is the question being asked among Republicans in New Hampshire.

This is how the Senate math looks now: There are 58 Democrats in the Senate, (including two independents), with the number rising to 59 if Al Franken of Minnesota is seated after the court challenge to his race is completed. The replacement of Mr. Gregg with a Democrat would give the majority party exactly 60 seats, the number needed to control the legislative agenda without the threat of Republican filibusters.

Remember, New Hampshire is a very independent state. If Lynch replaced Gregg with a Republican, I would not be surprised but he will get hell from the Democratic Party. Keep in tune.

Republican Senator Judd Gregg (R-NH) for Commerce Secretary?

Is this true? If so, what a smooth move by Obama. Why? It would give the Democrats 60 in the senate, since New Hampshire has a Democratic Governor who would appoint the replacement. Does Gregg have a comment on this rumor?

The sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said Gregg’s nomination was far from a done deal, but remains a serious possibility. Reached by phone, Gregg, the top Republican on the Senate Budget Committee, said he had no comment on whether he has been in talks with the White House about the post.

Will Senator Gregg take it? Well, let's look at the realities here. New England was just swept away from all its Republican representatives in the house. Judd's counterpart, Senator John Sununu just lost his seat to former Governor Jeanne Shaheen, now Senator Jeanne Shaheen. Besides Gregg, who is up for reelection in 2010 and his seat is going to be a blood bath, the only other Republican senators left standing in the senate are the ladies from Maine. The question is this, "What is it worth for Gregg to say yes, to Obama?"

I say, "A lot".

Gregg can work with a centrist Democratic President, who is popular and won his state. He can be in that fold, instead of the weeds in the Republican senate, which many are not moderate as Gregg.

Don’t think the Republican leadership is not breathing down Gregg’s neck, they are, and it is heavy. My thing is this, "What do they have to offer?" I mean, the reality is this, again, Gregg still has to raise massive money to defend his seat, his state fell to the Democrats, and he is not safe.

My take, if Gregg takes it, RELIEF. If he does not, WORRY.

If Gregg accepts, this is a brilliant move by Obama. Let's see what happens. Besides, does Gregg and his other moderate colleagues want to hear this for the next two years? An ad, targeting the ladies in Maine and will run in New Hampshire.

Obama Morning Break. North Carolina VOTING, HEAVY.

Barack and John McCain at Al Smith Dinner, NYC

••

Vote Early in North Carolina

Mel Watt had a pretty simple message as he marched in the North Carolina A&T University homecoming parade last weekend. "Morning! Vote early! Avoid the rush!" the seven-term member of Congress called out. Watt didn't even bother saying whom to vote for; the crowd at the parade, many of them his constituents, were all pretty excited about the whole Democratic ticket in North Carolina, from Barack Obama on down. Watt's only goal was to get them to bank their votes well before Nov. 4. "Avoid the rush! Vote early!"

Early voting in North Carolina started Thursday; it's one of 31 states (plus the District of Columbia) that allow voters to cast ballots in person ahead of time without providing election officials with a reason they can't be there on Election Day. Which means that as both presidential campaigns shift from registering voters to getting out the vote, the election has actually already started. As much as 30 percent of the votes cast this fall will probably come in before Nov. 4, according to the National Association of Secretaries of State. continue

Hundreds are voting the lines are long in North Carolina. The folks are fired up and voting NOW. Don't know where to go in North Carolina, click here.

The Boss, the Piano Man and the Candidate
Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel were well into their act – playing at the same time, the same stage – when Senator Barack Obama arrived late Thursday night at the Hammerstein Ballroom.

Mr. Obama waited in the wings for nearly an hour before taking the stage.

And not a soul seemed to mind – why would they? – as Billy Joel weighed in with a long reprise of “New York State of Mind.”

After hearing the song at countless rallies, “The Rising,” was played live for Obama fans who filled all tiers of the giant ballroom on West 34th Street in Manhattan. For a moment, Mr. Springsteen jumped onto the grand piano as Mr. Joel played “Allentown.” And later, Mr. Joel grabbed a guitar and joined The Boss for “Glory Days.”

John Legend and India Arie joined the two on stage in an upbeat rendition of “People Get Ready.”

The fund-raising concert benefited the Obama Victory Fund. No total estimate was provided, but tickets ranged from a balcony seat ($500, which sold out quickly) to a lounge ticket for $25,000. The ballroom’s event manager said 1,959 people were on hand.

Except for that monetary detail, it would have been easy to forget that this was an Obama event at all. Until, of course, Mr. Springsteen took his microphone and, surrounded by the other singers said, “Ladies and Gentlemen, you want to bring on the next president of the United States, Barack Obama!” continue

Rise in Voting by Mail Transforms Race in Colorado
The presidential debate had barely ended Wednesday night when Kristin Marshall had her ballot on her lap, pen in hand, ready to vote. Three friends, all supporters of Senator Barack Obama, the Democratic nominee, had their ballots, too.

“Obama’s the second one down — don’t accidentally pick the first,” said Ms. Marshall, 27, a reference to the ballot placement of Senator John McCain, Mr. Obama’s Republican opponent, as her living room of Obama supporters erupted in laughter.

The traditional American vote — a solitary moment behind a black curtain in a booth, civics in secret — was never thus.

With Election Day less than three weeks away, the number of people voting by mail has exploded in Colorado, a closely divided state up for grabs in November. Nearly half of the state’s registered voters have requested ballots by mail, compelling the Obama and McCain campaigns to kick-start their get-out-the-vote efforts — and devise new and imaginative ones. continue

Lies, Fabrication, Sick, Cunning, Unscrupulous, that is McCain

I know many are caught up on Sarah Palin. You can read all you need about her, here. Just listen to Palin on national security, nuff said. There is so much documentation on her lies, thus far in this campaign; it just makes one shake their heads. I literally can not keep up!!

In the end, this is about John McCain and how he and his campaign has just accepted all these lies trumped up about Obama, made them public, repeat them as true, and just don't give a mickey-fickey if we like it or not.

Enter; the electorate is stupid, frame. This is what the McCain Campaign is running on.

Secondly, the McCain Campaign is running against the press. Joe Scarborough stated that he did not think this strategy would work, but it is a wait and see. The bloggers have been effective in documenting and pushing "McCain is a liar" narrative, forcing the McCain Campaign to respond. But they have been tepid, at best. The explanation that McCain has given about the lies and smears against Obama is this, "I think the tone of this whole campaign would have been very different if Senator Obama had accepted my request for us to appear in town hall meetings all across America, the same way Jack Kennedy and Barry Goldwater had agreed to do so. I know that because I’ve been in enough campaigns." As if this would not have happened anyway? Like this is a solid explanation to lie away? Again, expecting the electorate to be stupid and believe whatever comes out of this campaign's mouth.

The media has also been called out for not doing their PAID JOBS, which is reporting the news accurately. It took the women from "The View" to make McCain squirm on that couch. Expecting this would be a nice, touchy-feely interview, turned into why are you lying and stating "I approve this message?" When you, John McCain know this ad was a lie! Or Ari Melber on MSNBC to call out Brad Blakeman, Republican hack for backing an outright liar. Recently, there have been some hard hitting media pieces on McCain's untruthful ads, but my concern is this, "Is the public hearing this or listening?"

That for me is the million dollar question.

In closing, John McCain has traded his stature as a honorable, straight-talk, honest candidate to one who will do or say anything to win. Overall, he is misleading, a fraud, and a fabricator, corrupt, crooked, shady, deceitful and dishonest.

If McCain is all of that, throw Sarah "the empty skirt" along in that pile, too.

Greenspan Says McCain Tax Plan Needs Corresponding Budget Cuts
Former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan said the country can't afford $3.3 trillion of tax cuts proposed by Republican presidential nominee John McCain without corresponding spending reductions.

Greenspan, a lifelong Republican and longtime friend of McCain, said today on Bloomberg Television's ``Political Capital With Al Hunt'' that ``I'm not in favor of financing tax cuts with borrowed money.''

McCain has said he would balance the cost of most of his tax cuts with budget reductions, while providing few details beyond eliminating earmarks and other pork-barrel spending, which have totaled about $171 billion since 2001. Democratic nominee Barack Obama is proposing fewer tax cuts and more ambitious spending programs.

Greenspan said he has ``mixed feelings'' about a second government economic-stimulus bill after the U.S. provided a $168 billion package in February. While such an action may increase the budget deficit at a time when spending on retirees' medical benefits is about to cause ``big'' financial problems, it may also boost economic growth, he said. continue

Obama Evening Wrap Up....Palin Begging for Hillary Voters

Still Wanting Hillary Voters, Just Not Ready for Prime Time

To be honest, what Hillary voter would fall for Sarah Palin? This woman, first off is not Hillary. Second, her postitions are a 180 to Hillary. Third, anyone voting for Palin it is personal about Barack Obama.

But Palin still is wanting the Clinton voters, stating Obama should have put her on the ticket.

After watching Palin last night on ABC, my conclusions were sealed. She is nothing. I mean, absolutely nothing.

The questions on foreign policy was startling. The look on Charlie Gibson's face and he was being nice, told the story. The woman is an empty pantsuit. See for yourself, here:

Sorry, folks, Sarah Palin was clearly scripted and tried to dance around the "Bush Doctrine" questions, indicated we could go to war with Russia, a Bush/Cheney hardliner and is just clueless. First off, Senator Claire McCaskill was frank today. Want to go to war with Russia? Draft time. And Chris Matthews, from Hardball nails it about Palin:

This is a woman who is a heartbeat away from the presidency, with a presidential candidate who is 72 years old and had 4 bouts of cancer. Do we really want her in charge? As Matt Damon said, "She will have the nuke codes." Do we? After last night, she is incredibly frightening, a Bush/Cheney in a skirt, and is NOT HILLARY CLINTON.

Oh, since Charles Gibson did ask the questions, her next spot is Sean Hannity, Fox News, a non-journalist hack who will not ask the questions.

Ladies of "The View" Take it to McCain

Senator John McCain bounded onto the set of “The View” this morning, perhaps expecting a fun session chatting with the ladies about the softer side of his presidential campaign.

But once he settled onto the couch, he got a pretty good grilling — on earmarks, on his erstwhile image as a “maverick” and, of course, about his running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin. He also defended his ads against Senator Barack Obama, saying “they are not lies,” and his wife, Cindy, who appeared later, declined to answer a question about how many houses the McCains own.

Mr. McCain also had some kind words for Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, who may have been the first choice for president among many viewers of “The View.” The show is watched by 3.4 million people, according to Nielsen, 78 percent of whom are women and whose median age is 56 years old.

A visit to “The View” is becoming a rite of passage for candidates as they try to shore up their appeal among women (Mr. McCain also taped a segment today for the Rachael Ray show.)

Anyway, Ms. Walters led off the questioning of Mr. McCain, and right away set the tone for the rest of the interview.

She first asked Mr. McCain to defend his earlier statement that Ms. Palin was “the greatest vice presidential candidate in the history of the United States.” Was he perhaps overlooking John Adams or George H.W. Bush? continue

Video of the full interview, here.

Which Country is First to McCain?

A good question.
"Just ask the machinists in Pennsylvania who build Harley-Davidsons," Obama said of McCain's record. "Because John McCain didn’t just oppose the requirement that the government buy American-made motorcycles, he called Buy American provisions 'disgraceful.' Just ask the workers across this country who have seen their jobs outsourced. The very companies that shipped their jobs overseas have been rewarded with billions of dollars in tax breaks that John McCain supports and plans to continue.

"So, when American workers hear John McCain talking about putting 'Country First,'" Obama said, "it’s fair to ask –- which country?"

Obama Evening Wrap Up....What shade is your lipstick?

barack in norfolk, virginia

::

Lipstick, Faux Outrage and the "iffy" Press

If you don't know, then you should. Obama referred to the McCain/Palin Campaign as "putting lipstick on a pig." But, the McCain Campaign states he was talking about Sarah Palin.

Yes, this is bullshit, trivial nothing. But again, remember when you have a horrible record and parties of liars as in the Bush Administration, what can you possibly run on? The truth? Here is Barack's response:

Does anyone believe the GOP is outraged? This is a party that will do or say anything to win. They are even lying about the McCain/Palin record and have been called OUT repeatedly. As Barack says, "spare me the phony outrage." And with the media, it is starting to work.

CBS pulled that webad attacking Obama about the "pig" message against Palin. In fact, the McCain Campaign used footage of Katie Couric who was speaking on another topic. Youtube has pulled the webad.

What is happening is that the press is slowly, starting to perform their duty. That is to REPORT the facts. All three networks started out with some indication of the McCain/Palin ticket lying, distorting facts, untruthful, etc.

McCain can stay in the mud, but the viewpoint of him will eventually turn. We, that is, those that follow politics are always gnashing teeth at the possibility that the public will, fall again, for tricks instead of facts. The opinion is still out on that one, this time around. I do know people want to know what you are going to do to solve problems, not this continuous cry-baby game that the McCain Campaign is playing.

Lastly, when the debates come around, some truth must come out of John McCain's mouth and Sarah Palin's mouth. For now, it is the proverbial "he said, she said" game.

Oh, my lipstick shade is blood red. That is how badly the Republicans need to leave Washington, D.C. And read, "There is more going on than "Lipstick on a Pig".

McCain-Palin Distorts Our Finding

A McCain-Palin ad has FactCheck.org calling Obama's attacks on Palin "absolutely false" and "misleading." That's what we said, but it wasn't about Obama.

Our article criticized anonymous e-mail falsehoods and bogus claims about Palin posted around the Internet. We have no evidence that any of the claims we found to be false came from the Obama campaign.

The McCain-Palin ad also twists a quote from a Wall Street Journal columnist. He said the Obama camp had sent a team to Alaska to "dig into her record and background." The ad quotes the WSJ as saying the team was sent to "dig dirt."

Update, Sept. 10: Furthermore, the Obama campaign insists that no researchers have been sent to Alaska and that the Journal owes them a correction. continue

Or is unity asking too much?

I know this is supposed to be a marriage, but behind the scenes, it feels more like a divorce.

There's a lot of sadness and hurt between the Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton camps, with both sides fighting over money and loyalty.

Before the unity fest to began here in Unity, N.H., I was on the phone with some top Clinton supporters who attended a big gathering of major donors in Washington, D.C. last night.

It was hosted by Clinton's team, and to many in attendance, it didn't feel like a reunion. It felt like the arrival of a repo man.

"Hillary was sad, even pitiful I have to say," said one of her top donors.

"It was like, this guy is coming to take my family away."

But most of the right things were said.

Obama expressed a determination to help with Clinton's whopping campaign debt. continue

McCain offers 300M for an automobile battery

That is if he is president.

The presumed Republican nominee is proposing a $300 million government prize to whoever can develop an automobile battery that far surpasses existing technology. The bounty would equate to $1 for every man, woman and child in the country, "a small price to pay for helping to break the back of our oil dependency," McCain said in remarks prepared for delivery Monday at Fresno State University in California.

McCain said such a device should deliver power at 30 percent of current costs and have "the size, capacity, cost and power to leapfrog the commercially available plug-in hybrids or electric cars."

The Arizona senator is also proposing stiffer fines for automakers who skirt existing fuel-efficiency standards, as well as incentives to increase use of domestic and foreign alcohol-based fuels such as ethanol.

In addition, a so-called Clean Car Challenge would provide U.S. automakers with a $5,000 tax credit for every zero-carbon emissions car they develop and sell.

Ummm, I see our future teckkies falling for this.....

Moveon.org putting Obama on the hot spot.

It is all about this statement of Obama's:
It does, however, grant retroactive immunity, and I will work in the Senate to remove this provision so that we can seek full accountability for past offenses.

This is all about making the telecom community RESPONSIBLE for the illegal spying program of the Bush Administration. This is going to be a stickler, here.

My take, they should get NO IMMUNITY, period. Moveon will put the pressure on Obama. Now we will see what happens. Read it here.

Obama camp closely linked with ethanol
When VeraSun Energy inaugurated a new ethanol processing plant last summer in Charles City, Iowa, some of that industry’s most prominent boosters showed up. Leaders of the National Corn Growers Association and the Renewable Fuels Association, for instance, came to help cut the ribbon — and so did Senator Barack Obama .

Then running far behind Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton in name recognition and in the polls, Mr. Obama was in the midst of a campaign swing through the state where he would eventually register his first caucus victory. And as befits a senator from Illinois, the country’s second largest corn-producing state, he delivered a ringing endorsement of ethanol as an alternative fuel.

Mr. Obama is running as a reformer who is seeking to reduce the influence of special interests. But like any other politician, he has powerful constituencies that help shape his views. And when it comes to domestic ethanol, almost all of which is made from corn, he also has advisers and prominent supporters with close ties to the industry at a time when energy policy is a point of sharp contrast between the parties and their presidential candidates. continue here

Reporters Claim that the Networks are putting Iraq on the Backburner

I agree with this. How? Well, it costs money to cover wars, period. Name the correspondent from the major networks over there? More importantly, how many are over there?

The next president will have major, huge problems. Many not seen or recognized by the general public. Iraq is worse than many of us can imagine, but the failure of the mainstream media to cover it only tells you what the importance is. MONEY. It costs to cover this war, just as it cost money to cover this presidential race, which is easier because it is on our soil.

Iraq is worse than is being reported, don't believe anything different.

Obama is reintroducing himself to the country.

As he must. Remember, we know the Obamas, most of the country does not. And if they know anything is just clips of Reverend Wright, if they were paying attention.

Having this money to fund your own campaign allows you to define yourself, positions, family to the voters. Don't think the McCain Campaign is not worried about this, they are.

In the opening weeks of the general-election campaign, Sen. Barack Obama has moved aggressively to shape his campaign and offered a clear road map for the kind of candidate he is likely to become in the months ahead: an ambitious gamer of the electoral map, a ruthless fundraiser and a scrupulous manager of his own biography in the face of persistent concerns about how he is perceived.

Obama's early maneuvers suggest a clear understanding within the campaign of his strengths and weaknesses. He bought air time in 18 states, a sure sign that he hopes to expand Democrats' traditional electoral map. He opted out of the public campaign-financing system -- revealing his determination to press his financial advantage, even at the cost of handing his Republican opponent the opportunity to raise questions about the sincerity of his rhetoric on reform.

And with a first ad that delves into his biography, Obama acknowledged ongoing concerns among his advisers that voters do not know whether he shares the values and beliefs of ordinary Americans, a potentially critical vulnerability. The ad speaks to the reality that enough questions were raised about Obama through the long nomination battle that he needs to address them. The campaign's concerns include both taking on misinformation -- such as the persistent claim that he is Muslim when he is in fact a Christian -- and framing a biography unlike that of any nominee in the modern era. continue

Hillary Losing Backers to Barack?
The presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton, the Democrat frontrunner, is facing a wave of defections by supporters to Barack Obama, as an aura of “inevitability” about her nomination fades.

With Oprah Winfrey, the talk show host and Obama enthusiast, challenging former president Bill Clinton for star power on the campaign trail, the coronation of Hillary has been put on hold.

A few days ago, Helen Quarles peeled off the Hillary for President bumper stickers from her car and replaced them with Obama ’08.

“I didn’t think anybody could turn me away from Hillary,” said Quarles, who worked as a volunteer for Clinton’s first Senate election campaign in New York. “I liked her and was very fond of Bill.”

Quarles now lives in South Carolina, which holds its primary election next month. “In the South, a lot of people don’t like Hillary, so I felt it was up to me to turn things around for her. I really wanted her to win, but there’s something about Obama,” she said. “To me, he is the one who is going to make a difference.” TimesOnline

Let the Fun Begin!!
Yes, this is what the Hillary Clinton Campaign, who I call affectionately, Team Clinton had to say about going after Barack Obama.

Well, we waited. And we finally got the magnificent press release from Team Clinton, last Sunday. Among the explosive oppo research was the reference to Obama’s aspirations to become president, as early as kindergarten. Yes, kindergarten. Oh, and then it expounded on his refined penmanship in kindergarten and third grade with examples of his essays on “I want to be President” topic.

Well, the media love fest was frenzy this week. I mean who knew??? Who knew??? Obama wanted to be president in kindergarten!!! Hell, I wanted to be Diana Ross, one day, then I wanted to be Cleopatra Jones (yes, throwback, y’all), meaning I wanted to be so many people, my parents would just say, “that’s wonderful, sugar.” Oh, and then Team Clinton strategist, Mark Penn, tries to clean this up on Morning Joe, and said it was a joke. Do they think people are stupid?

Sigh, then Team Clinton gets caught up with a tempest in a tea pot. Their own staff was found out emailing the muslim smear against Barack Obama. Yes, good old Team Clinton who said, “Let the Fun Begin!!”, now looks sophomoric, at best, in handling all this through the week.

Isn’t Hillary Clinton the one who is vetted, tough, tested? Yet, doing this stuff? And is this the best they have on Barack Obama? We must be honest here, the Iowa Caucus is three weeks away and if you want to bring someone down, now is the time, not later. But kindergarten papers? Getting caught sending muslim smears? Is this the tightly run campaign that everyone has bragged about all year?

They look very amateurish, to me.

The Obama Newness
Clinton Should No Longer Worry About Just Iowa

Obama: Expand National Service Programs
Democrat Barack Obama on Wednesday advocated a major expansion of the Peace Corps, AmeriCorps and other national service programs, declaring, "This will be a cause of my presidency."

The Illinois senator said the government is not keeping pace with those who want to help. "We will create new opportunities for all of us to serve," he said at a rally at Cornell College.

Obama evoked the memory of President Kennedy and his Peace Corps volunteers, saying, "JFK made their service a bridge to the developing world." Despite growing anti-Americanism around the world, he said, "the American people are not the problem, they are the answer."

Obama, a senator from Illinois, said he also would expand the all-volunteer military but would "never send them to fight in a misguided war."

"The burden of service has fallen more and more on the brave men and women of our military," he said, citing "tour upon tour of duty in a war with no end." For returning troops, he said, "We will enlist veterans to help other veterans to find jobs, and to pitch in at VA hospitals and nursing homes." more

Obama on a Roll
A Princeton professor and outspoken expert on African-American culture said he believes U.S. Sen. Barack Obama's candidacy for president is an important breakthrough for blacks -- whether Obama wins the Democratic nomination for president or not.

But Cornel West believes Obama is going to win.

Speaking Monday night to thousands in the Joe L. Reed Acadome on the campus of Alabama State University, West said he believes the Illinois Democrat, after running behind U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York for most of the presidential race, has turned the corner.

"This man's on the move, he's out there running hard and sounding good," West said. Recent polls show Obama and Clinton in a statistical dead heat. MontgomeryAdvertiser

Obama Gets Grammy Nod
While Barack Obama is battling Hillary Clinton in the Democratic race, he can enjoy a small victory from those who vote with ears more than hearts and minds: He is one of five contenders for the Grammy Award for Spoken Word, one of 110 categories this year.

If only nominations on the campaign trail were decided so easily and early in December, just as primary season continues and eyes remain fixed for the 11 months until Election Day.

Like many of Senator Obama’s targets on the trail, the musicians, producers, engineers and recording professionals who will decide this race are single-issue voters looking to improve “the cultural condition and quality of life for music and its makers,” according to the news release. more, NYT

Obama Fits the Bill for President
As is the custom in New Hampshire this time of year, I recently asked a woman in a coffee shop who she was supporting for president. Her answer: “The last candidate I heard speak.” The point is we have a remarkable group of candidates, so it’s no surprise most voters remain undecided.

As the date gets closer, and more and more people ask who I’m with. After many months consideration, I’ve finally made my choice.

Kucinich deserves to do well in New Hampshire. His bold and uncompromising vision needs to be heard.

Bill Richardson would make a great chief executive, with his unmatched experience. But inspiring personal presentation (also called charisma) is a job requirement which is not his strength.

Chris Dodd is consistent on every issue, and is a terrific speaker. I wish his numbers were at least as high as Kucinich. Same goes for Joe Biden — great on the issues, a captivating speaker too. Just not connecting enough.

That leaves the “top three.” Before the Republicans have laid a glove on her, Clinton starts out with 50 percent of Americans saying they would never vote for her. She’s relied on an engineered aura of inevitability. She buys into the all-things-to-all-people style, the course laid out for Kerry by his political director Jeanne Shaheen. Straddling everything doesn’t win.

Some people say it’s time for a woman. Martin Luther King hoped we would judge people by the content of their character, not by their color, or by extension, their gender.

A new direction? What about support for the war in Iraq, her prideful refusal to accept that she made a mistake, her unconscionable vote declaring part of Iran’s government to be a terrorist organization (giving Bush the carte blanche to attack)? Her commitment to keeping combat troops in Iraq and her refusal to say she’d get them all out by 2013? Her blatant pandering to the right on flag-burning, and on late term abortions?

And then there’s planting softball questions for herself to answer.

Experience? Aside from spouse of the president, I can’t seem to remember her cabinet post. more

icebergslim’s last word: oprah. dirty campaign tactics. change.

This was another weird week for Barack. It was.

First it was Team Clinton’s hilariously, funny press release last Sunday. The cincher was that Barack has had aspirations, ambitions to become president in kindergarten and third grade. As the witness to his third grade papers, promptly waved for everyone to see. Oy!!! Nothing is nicer than to be in a tight race in the early states and folks laughing at the front runner’s pettiness.

Then Barack had to deal with the on-going muslim email circulation. Obama is not a muslim, he is a Christian and now his name is being used against him. Well, guess what popped off? Team Clinton’s staff caught sending and spreading this rumor. Of course, the culprits were dismissed but the damage is done. One cannot do anything but view Team Clinton as desperate and will do anything to win, even if it means spreading a lie. Oh, yes, Team Clinton denounced it, but the damage is done. It really is.

Then we have Oprah Winfrey.

I am one who has repeatedly said endorsements mean nothing. It does not. The candidate must seal the deal him/herself, no endorsement can do that. But as this week has progressed, so did the energy of the Obama/Oprah weekend. Suddenly, everyone was talking about it and when Columbia, South Carolina had to move the venue to an 80K stadium, well what else could one say.

I was more interested in what Oprah had to say than Barack. What was she going to say? Would it be quoted? Will people listen? Well, she gave a home run speech and no one can denounce or argue that point. This phrase has stayed with me:
“When you listen to Barack Obama, when you really hear him, you witness a very rare thing,” she said in Des Moines. “You witness a politician who has an ear for eloquence and a tongue dipped in the unvarnished truth.”

Yes, a politician who is so eloquent but will not mince words. He will tell it to you with a tongue dipped in the unvarnished truth. That statement said it all for me. It is about time we got a statesman in the White House. It is about time we got someone who is honest and unafraid of the truth in the White House. This has been missing so long, we forgot how it sounds. Since the 90’s to now, we have had to deal with untruth in the White House. Yes, we have had to deal with it. And we are tired. Just sick and tired of it.

Change. This battle is about change. It is. It is not about electability because the three top runners are electable. No, this argument is change and what kind we want. After seeing over 18K in Des Moines, over 10K in Cedar Rapids, over 30K in Columbia, SC, what do you think?

People do not go to political rallies for anything. They go searching and seeking an answer to the question. And as Oprah Winfrey said, “I am here to tell you, Iowa, he is the one. He is the one!"

Yes. He is.

well, as we see the 30K crowd out to hear barack, oprah and michelle, in columbia, sc, things are moving and evolving at break neck speed. we are in ties or slightly ahead in many of the early state polls, which shows we have the momentum. people are showing that they want change and barack obama is that change. as we move into the holiday season, remember the nastiness and sheer jealousy will continue to increase. rise above it. keep your eyes on the prize. focus on obama and not the drama.
