All the nastiness, much coming from the Republican/GOP side, eventually will end one way or another. The Republicans were successful in driving President Obama's numbers down, but unsuccessful in raising their numbers up. At this point, President Obama's numbers have recovered some but mostly stabled, on the other hand the Republican's numbers are still in the tank. Knowing all this, you will then realize that what you are doing is not working. This has been the Republican's problems, the public though appears asleep are not always asleep, and when you have the internet for folks to perform their own fact check, eventually what comes out of your mouths are painted as lies and the public moves on.
Maybe, Graham is now the first Republican who has just had enough of the continued bullshit and lies that have festered from all these, "conservative talk show hosts."
Today at the Washington Ideas Forum sponsored by the Atlantic, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) sharply criticized “talk radio, MoveOn.org, the 24-hour news cycle” for the polarization in politics. He then specifically mentioned Fox News hosts Bill O’Reilly and Glenn Beck:
Can you imagine writing the Constitution — you know, O’Reilly says Ben Franklin’s giving in on something. Can you imagine having to do that in this environment? [Graham said]
Without missing a beat, The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg next asked for Graham’s thoughts on Glenn Beck.
“Only in America can you make that much money crying,” Graham said.
Graham also claimed that Beck is “not aligned with any party as far as I can tell. He’s aligned with cynicism. And there’s always been a market for cynicism.” Watch it:
President Barack Obama Meets the Press this Sunday. He goes one-on-one with David Gregory about the many challenges facing his administration: passing health care reform, improving the economy, getting people back to work and forging a future in Afghanistan. Then, the Republican response. We'll speak exclusively with House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC). Plus, insights from our political roundtable: The Washington Post's Eugene Robinson & Politico's Roger Simon.
We all have been trying to tell the Republicans that "elections matter", meaning when you won like Barack Obama and the Democrats did, you have a MANDATE. Well, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) got the message and will vote to confirm Judge Sonia Sotomayor.
But Graham stood out when he said that presidents deserve deference on their choices for the court. He said as much Wednesday.
"I would not have chosen her if I had made this choice as president, but I understand why President Obama did," Graham said. "Elections matter."
The Republicans botched the confirmation of Judge Sonia Sotomayor up pretty badly. Instead of showing any leadership, the D.C. Republicans let the likes of Pat Buchanan, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh who are supporters of their party call her every name in the book but the Mother of Jesus Christ. The Republican Party let all that nastiness, race bating, racist and bigoted remarks towards Judge Sonia Sotomayor linger out there that by the time questioning came around, it was relatively timid.
Don't think that the Latino community will not forget what came out of these right winged extremists mouths, they will remember. The Latino vote was critical in 2008 and the Republican Party lost is 2-1. Their performance and language during this process will only confirm that the door to the Latino community will be bolted shut for a very long time.
Judge Sonia Sotomayor will be the next Associate Supreme Court Justice and the first of Hispanic descent. And that is just how it will go down.
Did you get all that? Do you understand how the Republicans are going to play this?
Are the Democrats going to allow this to be torpedoed?
Americans overwhelmingly support substantial changes to the health care system and are strongly behind one of the most contentious proposals Congress is considering, a government-run insurance plan to compete with private insurers, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll.
The poll found that most Americans would be willing to pay higher taxes so everyone could have health insurance and that they said the government could do a better job of holding down health-care costs than the private sector.
Again, the insurance companies, PHARMA, HMOs should be very worried.
The public does want the government public option and many DO GET IT. With the public option, insurance companies must be more competitive on their services and offer and PAY folks claims. Everyone has had a run in with their health insurance plans and folks understand that insurance companies are in it for themselves, not for what is best for the U.S. customer. The health insurance in this country is so bad that many doctors are fighting with insurance companies THEMSELVES. People do understand that if the insurance companies, PHARMA, HMOs are so against the public option, it must offer the public something that they want, SERVICE.
Folks, if you are a member in congress, especially the senate, the lobbyists are sleeping at your doorstep!!! The lobbyists are waiting to get into your senator's office for a meeting with the checkbook open and willing to write any amount necessary to secure your senator's vote AGAINST any public option.
Folks, our congress is so corrupt that they are willing to NOT LISTEN TO US, THE AMERICAN PUBLIC all for the greater good of themselves.
That weak argument by Lindsay Graham is ridiculous. The insurance companies are all about driving costs up and denying coverage, period. If this was not so, we would not have almost 50 million Americans walking around here with no insurance. Nor would we have 50% of bankruptices in this country DUE to health care costs, and we are talking about most Americans having coverage but the insurance companies DID NOT PAY. And we would not have 14,000 American individuals losing health care insurance DAILY, not weekly or monthly, but DAILY. These numbers are staggering and something needs to be done.
What we see unfolding in Washington, D.C. is straight up beltway insider's rule. Damn the public, the senators are going to do what THEY WANT TO DO, not what WE DEMAND.
I can not argue or state enough that if we do not stand up against these senators, lobbyists, insurance companies and with the President's fight for the public option plan, we will not get another chance for decades to come.
Money is a bitch. It is the greed of all things. Along with money comes power. The money and power is influencing congress right now. How? With the CBS/NYT poll out that Americans want public option, these senators, most Republicans but with many Democrats are staunchly stating that they will not vote for any public option plan, even though WE WANT IT.
Again, the Republicans are leaderless and with that comes all the crap we have heard all week long against Judge Sonia Sotomayor. In the end, she will be confirmed. In the end, the Republican Party may have DAMAGED themselves further with Latino voters.
Senator Lindsay Graham (R-SC)
Still running for President, Mitt Romney
Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL)
The Republican Party needs to decide which way to go. Continue to demonized Judge Sotomayor with baseless attacks while alienating a voting block they need? Continue to make sextist remarks against Judge Sotomayor, which makes many women angry? These are voting blocks that the Republican Party LOST 2-1. Now continue to let King Rush, Newt and all the blowhards who only care about their radio shows, book sales, etc., continue to talk, in the end you will get what you got at the ballot box in November, a defeat.
U.S. Vice President-elect Sen. Joseph Biden (D-DE) (R) speaks as President-elect Barack Obama (C) and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) (L) listen during a meeting regarding a recent trip to Southwest Asia at the transition office January 14, 2009 in Washington, DC. Biden and Graham, who have recently returned from a trip to Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait and Pakistan, briefed Obama on their diplomatic findings.
