Senate Republicans sure like the HATE

35 Senate Republicans voted against the defense bill which includes the Matthew Shepard Hate Crime bill. Shepard was a gay college student who was kidnapped and beaten to death in Wyoming. The Shepard Bill has been around the halls of congress for a long time, now it will finally be signed into law by President Obama, but as we continue to see from the Republican Party of NO or the party that is not in charge of anything anymore, any excuse to buck the President will be used, even if it is not to vote on a signature piece of legislation which will make it a federal crime to assault someone on the basis of their sexual orientation or gender identity. We see, again, where the Senate Republicans stand. This from the ever loving, sympathetic Senator Saxby Chambliss (R-GA):

Senate Republicans conceded that the Shepard bill swung their votes against the defense package. "The bill includes hate crimes legislation, which I firmly believe is unnecessary, irresponsible, and certainly not germane to this bill," Saxby Chambliss of Georgia said. "There is little evidence that indicates that violent crimes motivated by hate go unpunished in the United States. Every single state has come from laws that prohibit the behavior addressed by hate crimes legislation, including laws against rape, assault and battery."

Sigh, it just continues on.....
