Obama up 50% in CO, IA and WI (NBC/WSJ/Marist Poll)

Seriously, how can Mitt ROBBED ME really think he can NOT campaign and win a presidency?

Anyway, here:

President Barack Obama leads Mitt Romney in Colorado, Iowa and Wisconsin, reaching the key 50 percent support threshold in all three battlegrounds, according to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist polls of these states.

In both Colorado and Wisconsin, Obama is ahead by 5 points among likely voters (including those learning toward a candidate), 50 percent to 45 percent.

And in Iowa, the president’s edge over Romney is 8 points, 50 percent to 42 percent.

I have to agree with radio lefty, Norman Goldman, how can Romney expect to win this and he is not campaigning?

This is one vague and weird presidential campaign I have ever witnessed. Romney actually believe that he can just carpet bomb these swing states, that daily DON'T look swing and become president on nothing? Well, we are witnessing the voters decision become HARD towards Romney, thanks to Romney doing himself in. While, his campaign is saying the public want more MITT!!! Seriously, after all your own bullshit has blown in the wind for all of us to smell it? Good Luck.

Next stop, the Republicans will run to the mattresses to save their own asses and say the hell with Mitt Romney.

More from the poll:

A plurality of likely voters view Romney in a negative light in all three states. In Colorado, it’s 43 percent favorable to 50 percent unfavorable; in Iowa, it’s 42 percent to 50 percent; and in Wisconsin, it’s 43 percent to 46 percent.

By contrast, out of last week’s polls in Florida, Ohio and Virginia, just one of them – Ohio – found Romney’s favorable/unfavorable rating under water.

Lastly, Chuck Todd from NBC/MSNBC blasted Mitt Romney for not even CAMPAIGNING!! Seriously, this man thought he could run a ONE NOTE campaign, deliver no specifics and folks will flock to him. I think he is toast, but that does not mean we sit on our laurels and don't get this vote out. We double down and get every vote out!!

And the bonus, from Lawrence O'Donnell, The Last Word from last night:

All about Mitt and Ann Romney LYING. And you think you can win the people's vote by constantly lying? Good Luck and soon GOOD RIDDANCE.

Toddler denied health insurance because she is underweight

Totally, ridiculous and the insurance companies wants us not to have competition for shit like this? Last week, the 4 month old baby was too fat, this week a toddler is too small, WTF????

The parents of a two-year-old girl in Colorado are unable to attain health insurance for their daughter because the insurer, United Healthcare Golden Rule, claims she is too small. In a letter sent to the family of the child, Aislin Bates, United Healthcare Golden Rule writes, "we are unable to provide coverage for Aislin because her height and weight do not meet our company standards." According to a Colorado news station, Aislin weighed six pounds, six ounces at birth, and now weighs 22 pounds.

When Robert Bates, the girl's father, left his former job to start his own business, he was forced to seek out his own health insurance, and enrolled his family in an insurance plan with United Healthcare Golden Rule. "It took me by surprise," Bates told ABC 7 in Denver. "I didn't think that her size was that abnormal and that it was something that you'd consider to be unhealthy." As ABC 7 reports:

A spokeswoman for United Healthcare Golden Rule said 89 percent of the people who apply for insurance get it. Ellen Laden, the company's public relations director, told the station that most insurers have their own propriety height and weight guidelines.

"Ours are based on several medical sources, including the Centers for Disease Control, and are well within industry standards," she said. read more here...

And both cases the fat baby and skinny toddler are in Colorado. Lastly, these insurance companies denying people based on WHAT FACTS? The ones grabbed out of their @$$es???

Balloon Boy story has been determined to be a hoax (Video)

Sorry ass parents, that is all I can say. What is more important to me is these kids on these reality shows, like the train wreck of Jon and Kate plus 8, in which Jon now wants the kids off the tube. Look, when the kid said this was done for the show on CNN, that was a done deal for many on this family. Lastly, how do you keep a child who is obvious sick and throwing up not on one national morning show, but two, because of PUBLICITY? These parents should pay every dime of restitution to the county and federal agencies, period. And cable tv, when are you going to start vetting shit like this on television? You're a culprit in all of this, too.

Obama holding town hall meeting in Grand Junction, Colorado

And guess what? NO SCREENING, as many of the Republicans are doing for their town hall meetings, like Senator David (I love prostitutes and wearing diapers!!) Vitter (R-LA).

Mr. Obama plans to hold the town-hall meetings Tuesday in Portsmouth, N.H., Friday in Bozeman, Mont., and Saturday in Grand Junction, Colo. A White House official said participants wouldn't be screened to keep out opponents.

Mr. Obama, who has previously focused on cutting overall health spending, will now emphasize how the legislation would fix three specific problems, according to the White House official. An overhaul would end the practice of denying insurance coverage to people with a pre-existing illness; keep people from losing their coverage if they get sick; and protect Americans who face high out-of-pocket medical costs, the official said Mr. Obama would say.

The White House has been upstaged in recent days by a series of congressional town-hall meetings that turned rowdy after attendees shouted questions about the president's top domestic-policy priority. The official said cabinet members and other advisers would be dispatched to echo the president's message about fixing the three problems. read more here....

Obama to sign stimulus bill in Denver on Tuesday

Oh, if you did not know, President Obama is back on the road next week. First, to Denver then to Arizona to unveil the housing plan, in helping foreclosed homeowners.

President Obama will sign the economic stimulus bill Tuesday in Denver, Colorado, two senior administration officials confirm to CNN.

Both officials cited a desire to get out of Washington — to go, in the words of one official, “out west in an area hit hard economically, away from the politics of Washington.”

The other official described Denver as “a place that will see the benefits of the bill in hiring workers.”

Obama Morning Break. North Carolina VOTING, HEAVY.

Barack and John McCain at Al Smith Dinner, NYC

••

Vote Early in North Carolina

Mel Watt had a pretty simple message as he marched in the North Carolina A&T University homecoming parade last weekend. "Morning! Vote early! Avoid the rush!" the seven-term member of Congress called out. Watt didn't even bother saying whom to vote for; the crowd at the parade, many of them his constituents, were all pretty excited about the whole Democratic ticket in North Carolina, from Barack Obama on down. Watt's only goal was to get them to bank their votes well before Nov. 4. "Avoid the rush! Vote early!"

Early voting in North Carolina started Thursday; it's one of 31 states (plus the District of Columbia) that allow voters to cast ballots in person ahead of time without providing election officials with a reason they can't be there on Election Day. Which means that as both presidential campaigns shift from registering voters to getting out the vote, the election has actually already started. As much as 30 percent of the votes cast this fall will probably come in before Nov. 4, according to the National Association of Secretaries of State. continue

Hundreds are voting the lines are long in North Carolina. The folks are fired up and voting NOW. Don't know where to go in North Carolina, click here.

The Boss, the Piano Man and the Candidate
Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel were well into their act – playing at the same time, the same stage – when Senator Barack Obama arrived late Thursday night at the Hammerstein Ballroom.

Mr. Obama waited in the wings for nearly an hour before taking the stage.

And not a soul seemed to mind – why would they? – as Billy Joel weighed in with a long reprise of “New York State of Mind.”

After hearing the song at countless rallies, “The Rising,” was played live for Obama fans who filled all tiers of the giant ballroom on West 34th Street in Manhattan. For a moment, Mr. Springsteen jumped onto the grand piano as Mr. Joel played “Allentown.” And later, Mr. Joel grabbed a guitar and joined The Boss for “Glory Days.”

John Legend and India Arie joined the two on stage in an upbeat rendition of “People Get Ready.”

The fund-raising concert benefited the Obama Victory Fund. No total estimate was provided, but tickets ranged from a balcony seat ($500, which sold out quickly) to a lounge ticket for $25,000. The ballroom’s event manager said 1,959 people were on hand.

Except for that monetary detail, it would have been easy to forget that this was an Obama event at all. Until, of course, Mr. Springsteen took his microphone and, surrounded by the other singers said, “Ladies and Gentlemen, you want to bring on the next president of the United States, Barack Obama!” continue

Rise in Voting by Mail Transforms Race in Colorado
The presidential debate had barely ended Wednesday night when Kristin Marshall had her ballot on her lap, pen in hand, ready to vote. Three friends, all supporters of Senator Barack Obama, the Democratic nominee, had their ballots, too.

“Obama’s the second one down — don’t accidentally pick the first,” said Ms. Marshall, 27, a reference to the ballot placement of Senator John McCain, Mr. Obama’s Republican opponent, as her living room of Obama supporters erupted in laughter.

The traditional American vote — a solitary moment behind a black curtain in a booth, civics in secret — was never thus.

With Election Day less than three weeks away, the number of people voting by mail has exploded in Colorado, a closely divided state up for grabs in November. Nearly half of the state’s registered voters have requested ballots by mail, compelling the Obama and McCain campaigns to kick-start their get-out-the-vote efforts — and devise new and imaginative ones. continue

A Broken Record

When I was growing up, at times my mother sounded like a broken record. Well, I am writing like a broken record on speed. REGISTER FOLKS TO VOTE!!!

There I capped it. Just register folks to vote.

Tomorrow, Monday, October 6th, for many states across this nation the voter registration deadline is close of business. If you know someone who is not registered point them to the Obama Website, click on states at the top and go to the nearest Obama Office and register to vote. If you don't see an office, go here, print out your state's registration form and take it your county registrar's office.

Florida, Colorado, Georgia, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, the swing states registration ends close of business tomorrow, October 6, 2006. It is critical and mandatory that we get as many folks to register in order to flip these states and WIN IN NOVEMBER.

Every vote count. We win the states with the VOTES, then we win the electoral college. If you don't vote, you have no right to gripe, bitch, moan or have a hissy fit. We have less than 24 hours. Get busy.

The American Promise

Va. GOP fears McCain could lose the state
Virginia Republicans are warning that John McCain's prospects for winning a state that has been in the GOP column in every presidential election since 1964 could be in jeopardy. With Barack Obama treating the Old Dominion like a battleground state and reliable polls showing a margin-of-error race there, some are cautioning that McCain is making a critical mistake by allowing the Democratic nominee to outpace him in terms of visits and resources committed.

The two best indicators of which states the campaigns are serious about – time and money – tell the story.

Since wrapping up the Democratic nomination in June, Obama, his wife, Michelle, and his running mate Joe Biden have visited the commonwealth a combined 12 times. The candidate himself was in the Tidewater city of Newport News Saturday.

Obama is also plowing millions into Virginia, blanketing the airwaves with TV and radio ads, filling up mailboxes with leaflets and, along with the state party, operating 49 campaign offices.

Together, McCain and his running mate, Sarah Palin, have held just one campaign event in Virginia. And the campaign has taken its ads off the pricey Washington, D.C. network affiliates that reach into the entire swath of the Northern Virginia, the commonwealth’s most populous region. continue

Make-Believe Maverick
At Fort McNair, an army base located along the Potomac River in the nation's capital, a chance reunion takes place one day between two former POWs. It's the spring of 1974, and Navy commander John Sidney McCain III has returned home from the experience in Hanoi that, according to legend, transformed him from a callow and reckless youth into a serious man of patriotism and purpose. Walking along the grounds at Fort McNair, McCain runs into John Dramesi, an Air Force lieutenant colonel who was also imprisoned and tortured in Vietnam.

McCain is studying at the National War College, a prestigious graduate program he had to pull strings with the Secretary of the Navy to get into. Dramesi is enrolled, on his own merit, at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in the building next door.

There's a distance between the two men that belies their shared experience in North Vietnam — call it an honor gap. Like many American POWs, McCain broke down under torture and offered a "confession" to his North Vietnamese captors. Dramesi, in contrast, attempted two daring escapes. For the second he was brutalized for a month with daily torture sessions that nearly killed him. His partner in the escape, Lt. Col. Ed Atterberry, didn't survive the mistreatment. But Dramesi never said a disloyal word, and for his heroism was awarded two Air Force Crosses, one of the service's highest distinctions. McCain would later hail him as "one of the toughest guys I've ever met." continue

••

icebergslim’s last word: hail mary = negative train to november 4th

I watched Sarah Palin through all these interviews and the debate. It is obvious that the woman is not qualified for the Vice Presidency and I give her props for her good debate performance. She can read off her cue cards, well.

When Palin was plucked from obscurity the question for me was not WTF? The question was, “Why her?” Well, we have seen that she has somewhat solidified the conservative base. I state somewhat because the fundamentalists love her, would follow her over a cliff, but the fiscal, non-conservatives still are not totally sold on her.

Palin’s job was to shore up that base. This is the base that GOTV’d for Bush in 2004 with fervor. To bring women to McCain’s fold, especially any disenfranchised Hillary voters and independents. Well, I am proud to state, it ain’t happenin’. After her disastrous interviews, being caricatured to death by SNL’s Tina Fey, and her teenaged student council performance at the Vice Presidential debate in St. Louis, Palin has shown she is just not ready at all.

But let’s back up a minute. John McCain was the ‘presump’ since February, late February. He has campaigned during this time, on leisure. He has raised money, dismally. His campaign was on the down low. They watched and followed the Hillary Clinton strategy. He hired the ex-Rove attack dogs, turned negative all summer, paid off temporarily, still could not totally get Obama. McCain then stopped using his brain and allowed the Rove strategists to pluck Palin from nowhere. Totally stepped on Obama’s post convention bounce, she became a star, temporarily. Then something really important happened during the Palin demise, the economy. Real issues to Americans.

McCain must come out Tuesday night, cohesive, understanding, sympathetic, and knowledgeable on the ills of the economy. And I mean, not just the Wall Street/Main Street mortgage mess, but jobs, college tuition, the cost of gas, the cost of food, and the health care crisis in this country. He has to go beyond a tax cut, because people need more than that. He must have solid plans and policies to argue Obama on Tuesday night in Nashville. If he comes off abrasive, condescending, angry and erratic, he will sink even further in the polls.

We know and understand the last leg of this campaign, for the McCain Campaign is the hail mary to the extreme negative. Infantile Palin started already with the ridiculous Ayers comment. The campaign desperately want this off the economy, but the campaign don’t get to make that call, the public does. As, long as we hear about jobs being lost and for September it was 159,000, people will worry. For the record, these numbers are the ninth straight month of job loss in this country. Folks are worried about their security, their pension/retirement funds, about holding onto their job, paying for college, etc. The list of worry is endless. Right now the mood is not on, “Who Obama may or may not have associated with?” The mood is which candidate will help me FINANCIALLY and ECONOMICALLY.

And the McCain Campaign, just don’t seem to have an answer.

Obama Evening Wrap Up. Bailout Blunder. Early Voting in Ohio.

Barack in Westminster, Colorado

••

Bailout Blunder

The dow went minus 700 points today. OUCH.

But the average American don't care, nor do they understand.

The biggest blunder of Bush and yes, McCain is lack of explaining what this bailout, rescue, free money bill is all about. Thus, not explaining to the average joe and joesetta ends up what we saw today.

This bill needs to pass. Do I like it? No, but it does need to pass.

The world is watching us. The United States of America is a global leader in the financial markets. Many other countries are tied with the USA, as we are with them. But that is not what the average joe and joesetta understand.

This bill should have been explained like this: Are you getting a new car this year or next? Good luck, you won't get a loan. Your child needs a college tuition loan? Well, sorry can't cut the check. Want to extend your credit card limit? No.Can.Do. Oohhh, I love that new bedroom set, let's get it. Umm, sorry cash only. OMG!!! My 401K is tanking!!!! Too bad, you called your congress critter to vote against this bill.

That is the reality of this. Instead of making this about the future of the average joe or joesetta, Bush Administration allowed the framing of the media to be "Wall Street Bailout." When you pit Wall Street against Main Street, and Wall Street need money from Main Street, you aren't going to get it when the average joe believes it is bailing out a bunch or rich folks.

Lastly, the leadership of the congress. My take, they get an "F" today. House Minority Leader Boehner did not deliver the votes, Speaker Pelosi did not know if she had the votes, Bush is more of a lamer duck than ever, Secretary Paulson is not articulate enough, Bernake was not good at selling the urgency and McCain takes credit for the achievement of the bailout.

"What Senator McCain was able to do was to help bring all of the parties to the table, including the House Republicans, whose votes were needed to pass this"

--McCain campaign manager Steve Schmidt, Meet the Press yesterday.

More than two-thirds of the House Republicans, as you likely know, voted against the bill, which went down, 205-228.

••

Compare And Contrast: Obama Calls For Calm; McCain Attacks And Blames Obama
Now that the bailout has failed in the House, it's worth contrasting the immediate responses from the campaigns.

In Colorado today, Obama called for calm and predicted ultimate success. Here's what he said (before MSNBC cut away)...

"It's important for the American public and the markets to stay calm, because things are never smooth in Congress, and to understand that it will get better...We are going to make sure that an emergency package is put together, because it is required for us to stabilize the markets...

"So I'm confident that we are going to get there, but it's going to be a little rocky. It's sort of like flying into Denver -- you know you're going to land, it's not always fun going over those mountains." continue

This is why a measured, temperament is needed in the WHITE HOUSE.

The Urgency of Registering to Vote and Getting People to the Polls

I wrote a diary earlier this week that went viral, and THANK GOD IT DID. The Motherlode of All Voter Registration Information That You Need.

This diary has ALL THE INFORMATION YOU NEED to register to vote in all 50 states. It also contains information on absentee ballot per state, a website to request an absentee ballot for your state, early voting information per state, felon information per state, national voter registration form applicable for all 50 states, the Obama Campaign website for registering to vote, and all the download and online voting per state you need.

This is vital and important. The first date when voter registration ends is October 4, 2008. The way we win is getting people registered to vote and getting them to the polls.

There is NO EXCUSE for anyone not registering to vote, period.

My request is to pass my diary link along to 5 people and ask those 5 people to pass it along. Make the request urgent for folks to register to vote. People can print the voter registration request off at work, at home, at Kinko’s, or wherever. If you know someone that cannot get the application printed, PRINT IT FOR THEM and have them to fill it out and mail in to their county registrar/clerks office. Or drop the application off at the county office.

I am reeling about this because I found out today that Florida has 900,000 AAs between the ages of 18-24 that turned 18 in 2004. That’s votes folks. Indiana has registered over 500,000 new voters this year, that‘s votes folks. Virginia registration is off the chain and surpassing republican registration, that’s votes folks.

We win this by the VOTES, not the poll numbers. Again, your mission, if you accept, is to send my diary link around, talk to folks and find out if they are registered to vote, if not HELP THEM ALONG. See those teenagers on skate boards, ask them if they are 18 by November 4th, if so, guide them to a voter registration form.

We must smash the voter registration through the ceiling in all 50 states for Obama to win in November. Then our next mission is getting folks to early vote and to the polls on election day, but that is another write up.

All I am stating is this, elections are won, per state, by the MOST VOTES. Nothing more nothing less. Let's get busy, the clock is ticking away.

icebergslim’s last word: what goes around, comes around

The John McCain Campaign decided before Obama went to Europe that they would run a “personality” campaign. They attacked Obama while in the Middle East and Europe. The created the celebrity ads to make the public believe that he was a walking “empty suit”. And along the way decided they would lie, distort the truth, make shit up, rinse and repeat until the public would believe what they said as TRUE.

It was working. The polls were showing it. Obama took a hit on the “celebrity ads” and the negativity from the McCain Campaign was daily, as in ads daily. He picked Sarah “empty skirt/dress” Palin to challenge the women vote and shore up his base for GOTV. Hell, things were POPPIN’ at the McCain Camp.

Then reality set in, smack dab in the middle, after Labor Day, when the kids are back in school, PEOPLE ARE PAYING ATTENTION, the stock market and banks are about to go under!!

Politics of Personality, off the front page, and the economy is everyone’s concern. Can’t lie your way around or out of this one, it is real. Not trumped up or made up, but folks are LIVING IT. It makes issues and the responsibility of the press important now. Handing Wall Street and these banks a safety net of up to 1 Trillion Dollars without strict regulations and guidelines, do not sit well with the public. We have handed Bush/Cheney our dollars and look what happened? We don’t have anything to show for it. In fact, this country is far worse off than 8 years ago.

So, the trick bags of the McCain Campaign must be set aside. He must now face up to his record of siding with deregulation, which got us in the mess we are in today. He must face up to wanting to put social security in the free market. He must face up to wanting to manage our health care crisis like Wall Street. And so far, folks don’t like it.

The reality is that the Republican Party has been in charge these past 8 years and they ruined this country. Simple as that. Now that the Politics of Issues are front and center in Americans minds, McCain don’t have a pot to piss in.

See what happens when you do wrong? Comes right back TO YOU.
