Mitt Romney? Nothing. Obama’s Republican challenger has spent much of the summer racing around the country gathering campaign donations to pay for advertising. And the legal restraints that kept him from spending money raised for the general election were lifted a week ago, when the party officially nominated him for president. Yet for reasons that his advisors declined to discuss, Romney has ceded the advertising airwaves to Obama over the last week in Ohio and other battleground states. The sudden cease-fire offered a surprising lull in what for months had been a guns-blazing advertising war waged in Ohio, Florida, Virginia, Nevada, Colorado, Iowa and New Hampshire — on one side, Romney and his allies; on the other, the president and his.Look, we all know what is going on here. Romney categorically eliminated his primary opponents by blistering, negative ads. He did not have a ground game and will not have one this fall. His whole premise will be the AIR WAR. He may cease now, but he and his super pac(s) will come out blazing with some of the most negative and racially tinged ads this country will see during a presidential election. Just hold your hats and get ready for the fight. Full article, here.

This is so wrong, big lottery hoax (Video)
A woman being driven around in a rented limousine pulled up at a coat store and announced she'd won the lottery and would pay for everyone's purchases, police said, but she ended up causing a riot when customers realized it was a hoax.
Angry customers threw merchandise around and looted, leaving the store looking as though a hurricane had passed through it, police said.
Linda Brown was arrested Tuesday after an hours-long shopping spree that began when she hired a stretch Hummer limousine to drop her off at a Burlington Coat Factory store, police Sgt. Lt. Michael Deakins said. Brown walked to a cash register and loudly announced she had won the lottery and would pay for each person's merchandise up to $500, he said.
"Well, of course, people like to hear that," Deakins said. "Apparently they were in line calling relatives who were not at the store and told them to come."
People flooded the registers as cashiers began ringing up purchase after purchase, but Brown had not yet paid the bill, Deakins said. At least 500 people filled the aisles and another 1,000 were outside trying to get in, he said.
"She was telling people she won $1.5 million," Deakins said. "But it ends up she didn't win anything. She had no money to pay for anything." read more here....

Bad Poll Numbers for Obama on the economy in Ohio
I don't care what anyone says. When Joe Biden went on "This Week" and said, "We misread the economy", he created a talking point against this administration about the economy.
Also, don't think that the jobless, unemployment numbers are not a worry for this administration. It is a huge worry. Everytime Americans hear more folks on the unemployment rolls, they become more conscientious of their own jobs, money, etc. And everytime someone gets a pink slip that is creating more anxiety out here.
Sure we all know that Obama inherited this mess, but you can only blame the Bush Administration for so long. Eventually, this adminstration must have some hits coming with this economy and hope for job erosion to slow down. Again, the stimulus package is either a win or a bust. We will know by next year, I hope.
President Barack Obama's approval rating in Ohio has fallen rapidly in the past months.
Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,259 voters in Ohio from June 26 to July 7. The poll found that 49% of voters disapprove of the job Obama is doing, while 44% approve.
That is 13 points down from May, when a separate Quinnipiac poll found a 62% approval rating and a 31% disapproval rating.
The most recent Quinnipiac poll also surveyed voters on Obama's handling of the economy, finding 48% disapproval and 46% approval. In May, Obama received a 57% approval rating on the economy.

Obama Evening Wrap Up. Hoax.

Michelle in Akron, Ohio
••
Hoax, Lies and Irresponsibility
The story stemming from the Ashley Todd incident, the young woman who made up the story that she was "politically attacked" by a "black man" because she supports McCain goes beyond her mental instability, it goes to the McCain Campaign pushing this potential race baiting story.
This story was pushed from Drudge and FOX News linked onto it. These outlets purposely pushed this story as race baiting, that is the fact. It was so important for FOX that their executive VP of news wrote this:
If Ms. Todd’s allegations are proven accurate, some voters may revisit their support for Senator Obama, not because they are racists (with due respect to Rep. John Murtha), but because they suddenly feel they do not know enough about the Democratic nominee.
(snip)
If the incident turns out to be a hoax, Senator McCain’s quest for the presidency is over, forever linked to race-baiting.
Now the question is this, is McCain forever linked to race-baiting? His campaign is alleged to have pushed this story just for that effect.
John McCain's Pennsylvania communications director told reporters in the state an incendiary version of the hoax story about the attack on a McCain volunteer well before the facts of the case were known or established -- and even told reporters outright that the "B" carved into the victim's cheek stood for "Barack," according to multiple sources familiar with the discussions.
John Verrilli, the news director for KDKA in Pittsburgh, told TPM Election Central that McCain's Pennsylvania campaign communications director gave one of his reporters a detailed version of the attack that included a claim that the alleged attacker said, "You're with the McCain campaign? I'm going to teach you a lesson."
Verrilli also told TPM that the McCain spokesperson had claimed that the "B" stood for Barack. According to Verrilli, the spokesperson also told KDKA that Sarah Palin had called the victim of the alleged attack, who has since admitted the story was a hoax. continue
Now this information was pumped before the police gave any statement. This information was pushed by McCain Communications Director in Pennsylvania.
The time has come down to it getting scummy, nasty and dirty. It is quite obvious that the young woman who concocted this story has issues, mental. It is obvious that the McCain Campaign must win Pennsylvania, former Governor Tom Ridge stated so. It is obvious that the McCain Campaign has nothing, agenda wise, to offer this country but the continuous divisive tactics.
Lastly, why are any "known journalists" even if they are on FOX, believing or listening to Matt Drudge? This site has always been yellow journalistic, rumor mongering bullshit. Has he been right on some things? Yes, but he has been wrong on much more. Anyone repeating Drudge and not doing the due diligence of fact checking needs to be called out, like FOX NEWS and Sean Hannity.
It is the repeat of bullshit from these outlets that just make people not want to believe ANYTHING that is stated on television, anymore.
Additional information, here.

Michelle Obama fills in for husband in swing state Ohio
The wife of Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama spoke passionately about her working class roots Friday as she filled in for her husband who has rushed to be with his ailing grandmother.
"So as many of you may know, Barack is off the campaign trail today. He flew to Hawaii last night to see his grandmother, who we call 'Toot,'" Michelle Obama told a televised rally in Columbus, Ohio. "She is doing OK."
She credited 85-year-old Madelyn Dunham, who helped raise the Illinois senator, as giving her husband an inner strength that has helped him thrive.
"He said the other night -- he said, 'You know, I got my toughness from Toot,'" she said. "Because she taught him with her quiet confidence and that love and support that he could do anything, just deep love and admiration."
Campaigning for her husband in the pivotal Midwestern state of Ohio, Obama described with admiration her own parents' working class values. continue

Joe the Plumber is a REGISTERED REPUBLICAN (UPDATE from OHIO AFL-CIO)
Look the man has been all over television this morning on the McCain talking points.
He is going line by line from taxes, schools and social security.
He is not, repeat, not an undecided voter.
After watching his interview on MSNBC, the man is a plant or faking to be undecided while spewing McCain talking points.
••
Joe Wurzelbacher doesn't immediately turn up in the Ohio voter registration database, leading to some speculation last night that he's not registered to vote.
But the Toledo Blade reports that he appears to be a registered Republican, and a primary voter at that:
Linda Howe, executive director of the Lucas County Board of Elections, said a Samuel Joseph Worzelbacher, whose address and age match Joe the Plumber’s, registered in Lucas County on Sept. 10, 1992. He voted in his first primary on March 4, 2008, registering as a Republican.
Ms. Howe said that the name may be misspelled in the database.
(This is, incidentally, the reason people worry about purging the voter rolls. They're such a mess to begin with.)
Ben Smith, Politico
Look, I don't know if he is totally in the tank for McCain, but he is on the talking point mode, backing McCain policies and snidely bashing Obama. The push should be, "Joe the Plumber is a fraud, he is a registered republican carrying the water." Jed has up part of the video, the whole video below.
Lastly, the most important part of this is the misspelling of Joe's name and why NO VOTER REGISTRATION DATABASES SHOULD BE PURGED.
The Toledo Blade reported today that "Joe the Plumber's" name appears on Ohio voter registration rolls with a slight misspelling -- as Worzelbacher, not Wurzelbacher.
And that sort of data-entry error might be enough -- were Joe a new registrant -- to have him disqualified from voting in Ohio, Florida, or Wisconsin this year, depending on the outcome of ongoing litigation.
Purging voters or blocking their registration because of data errors is disenfranchisement by typo," said Michael Waldman, the executive director of the Brennan Center for Justice, a liberal legal group involved in litigation in those states. "Joe is a perfect example. If he were anew voter, he would be being challenged right now as not eligible to vote."
"Joe the Plumber is not committing voter fraud by having his name spelled differently on two different lists," he said.
Republicans have argued that there are safeguards against improper purges, and state officials say their lists are more accurate, and their purges more careful. They also note that voters whose registration is challenged can vote by provisional ballot. continue

Good morning Mr. Burga
I know, you've probably gotten a ton of these inquiries, but I'm hoping, I'm a little different.
I run a union website, am a registered voter and native of Ohio (Ashtabula) and I'd like to know how to find out if Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacker is a member of a pipefitters, steamfitters or plumbers unions. How would I go about that for the Toledo area. I've gotten a couple of the locals numbers, should I just call them?
Thanks so much

Obama Morning Break. Georgia Voting on FIRE!!!!

Barack at the Maumee Bay Resort in Oregon, Ohio
••
Georgia is serious
I was always skeptical of Georgia going for Barack, but I knew it would turn on the African-American base and it has.
Close to half a million voters have already voted and a high proportion of the votes are African-American.
The Obama Campaign has been forceful in the early voting states to get people to the polls, county offices to vote early. The organization for this is paying off.
If it is, the news continues to be extremely good for Obama. Early vote totals have now reached 499,582 -- more than 75,000 more than were cast early in all of 2004, according to Matt Carrothers, a spokesman for the Secretary of State. (The state is also newly encouraging early voting this year, so that's a major factor in the overall increase.)
Most striking: The ratio of African-American voters remains extremely high. 37% of the early votes were cast by black voters, who make up just 29% of the state's electorate.
Obama may not win Georgia, but there is a hotly contested senate race going on in Georgia between the Democrat Jim Martin and the Republican, Senator Saxby Chambliss. Chambliss was the one who painted former Senator Max Cleland (D-GA) unpatriotic, six years ago, though Cleland is a war hero and quadriplegic bound to a wheelchair.
The Democratic Party DSCC are pumping money in this state to win. The polls for this race are tight. Early voting, especially NEW VOTERS for Obama can make the difference in this race.
Recent polls have shown a tightening race between Chambliss and Martin, an Atlanta lawyer and former state lawmaker.
Chambliss has a 4-to-1 fund-raising advantage over Martin, meaning the Republican can buy a lot more advertising time in the final three weeks of the campaign. The injection from the national Democratic committee could help Martin bridge that gap.
“They see what we see – that Saxby Chambliss is vulnerable because he’s done a bad job for Georgia,” said Martin spokesman Ellery Gould.
This again proves that though Obama, himself, may not win Georgia he is instrumental in down ballot races going democrat in November.
If your state early votes, vote NOW, not November 4th. Bank those votes for Barack and the Democrats, NOW, not later. Contact your Secretary of State office here.

Obama advertising on XBOX, yes, XBOX
The virtual world within the Xbox 360 racing game "Burnout Paradise" features an Obama for President billboard -- indicating the first time a presidential candidate has advertised in a video game.
The gaming website Gamepolitics first posted the image of the Obama billboard within the fantasy computer world.
Holly Rockwood, director of corporate communications at Electronic Arts, confirmed to the gaming blog Gigaom, that "like most television, radio and print outlets, we accept advertising from credible political candidates. Like political spots on the television networks, these ads do not reflect the political policies of EA or the opinions of its development teams.”
Advertising Age applauds the move as savvy, saying, "we as advertisers have used the gaming space to reach the 18- to 34-year-old demographic so why shouldn't a presidential candidate use it as well?"

Jobs, Baby, Jobs (Video)
The speech that Obama gave in Toledo, Ohio said it all.
We can't wait to help workers and families and communities who are struggling right now -- who don't know if their job or their retirement will be there tomorrow; who don't know if next week's paycheck will cover this month's bills. We need to pass an economic rescue plan for the middle-class and we need to do it now. Today I'm proposing a number of steps that we should take immediately to stabilize our financial system, provide relief to families and communities, and help struggling homeowners. It's a plan that begins with one word that's on everyone's mind, and it's spelled J-O-B-S.
We all know someone who is looking for a job, lost a job, no jobs to be had. I have a niece that graduates from University of Minnesota in June with a Math Degree, but she is petrified because there are no jobs out there. She is contemplating continuing her education one more year to get another degree, taking on more debt, just because she is not confident of the job market for young people coming out of college.
Jobs and WAGES are critical in this economic meltdown. People are out here scrounging around, unsure of what is next, but many will tell you up front, JOBS are needed in this country with a LIVING WAGE.
I know the McCain Campaign are trying to retool themselves, fine, but I am not confident that John McCain and his cronies know what the hell people are really feeling out here. His lack of response to the immediate meltdown, suspension of his campaign and just failure to connect with policies for Americans to grasp on the economy is the major reason his polling numbers have gone south.
I said long time ago, this campaign will come down to the economy. When I hear family members talking about taking hard hits on their 401Ks, my father contemplating taking his money out of the market, should make everyone pause.
John McCain has no plan for the middle class or the economy. He is just rehashing the Bush failed speak, it is time to not only turn the page but write a NEW BOOK. Only this time the American Public will write it, not a politician.
If your state early votes, DO IT NOW. But whatever you do make sure you vote on November 4, 2008. That is the book that will be written and read for generations to come.
