Crazy Man Threatens President Barack Obama

I don't like writing things like this for ANY PRESIDENT, but we live in real time with real live nut cases walking around here.

Johnnie Galarza was accused of threatening to shoot President Obama soon after the election. Yesterday, officials in U.S. District Court in Omaha said the charge will be dismissed if Galarza undergoes psychiatric rehabilitation. Fifty-five-year-old Galarza had openly talked about how to shoot Obama during a therapy session. The remarks were reported to authorities by his Department of Veterans Affairs counselor. Galarza says he has been suffering from depression and post-traumatic stress from his days as an Army combat sniper. Galarza is not considered to be a dangerous person, according to an analysis from his therapist.

Senator Jim Bunning (R-KY) the GOP wants you OUT (Video)

They should and while they are taking the trash to the dumpster, take that atrociously ignorant Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL) out, too. They are part of the problem in why many minorities and women have stayed away from the Republican Party. Perception and delivery is everything and they have FORGOTTEN that this is 2009, not 1959. Here is what Bunning said about Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, absolutely appalling.

Rupert Murdoch, Chairman of the New York Post, Apologizes for the "Chimp Cartoon"

The buck does stop with him and about damn time. When you have the public protesting and targeting your advertisers, and no apology for that horrible cartoon that many believe was about Obama, what else can you do?

You may disagree with Barack Obama, but you don't have to go racist on it. Though Murdoch apologized, look how damn long it took for him to do so? His credibility with many is totally gone.

As the Chairman of the New York Post, I am ultimately responsible for what is printed in its pages. The buck stops with me.

Last week, we made a mistake. We ran a cartoon that offended many people. Today I want to personally apologize to any reader who felt offended, and even insulted.

Over the past couple of days, I have spoken to a number of people and I now better understand the hurt this cartoon has caused. At the same time, I have had conversations with Post editors about the situation and I can assure you - without a doubt - that the only intent of that cartoon was to mock a badly written piece of legislation. It was not meant to be racist, but unfortunately, it was interpreted by many as such.

We all hold the readers of the New York Post in high regard and I promise you that we will seek to be more attuned to the sensitivities of our community.

The Republicans dragged it out, but she hung in there. They don't like her, never did for Labor Secretary and her stand for card-check. But she has finally been confirmed.

As Congress Matters reports, Hilda Solis has been confirmed by the Senate in an 80-17 vote.

The nays were Bond, Bunning, Burr, Coburn, Cornyn, Crapo, DeMint, Ensign, Inhofe, Kyl, Risch, Roberts, Sessions, Shelby, Thune, Vitter and Wicker.

Obama to meet Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso Today

At the White House.

President Barack Obama and Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso will discuss the global economic crisis, Afghanistan and North Korea at a meeting on Tuesday aimed at reinforcing the strong alliance between their two countries.

Aso is the first foreign leader to visit the White House since Obama took office a month ago, signaling the new U.S. president's aim of cultivating warm ties.

But it is unclear whether Aso, who will sit down with Obama at 10:30 a.m. EST (1530 GMT), will be paying many future visits to the Oval Office.

After a series of flip-flops and gaffes by his government, some in Aso's own Liberal Democratic Party have called for him to be replaced and a poll released this week showed almost four out of five Japanese voters want him to quit within months.

"This meeting is not about the individuals so much as it is about the relationship between the countries," said Ralph Cossa, head of the Pacific Forum think tank at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

Minnesota, when are you going to let Franken be seated?

I have had one eye on Minnesota, since I lived there for five years.

As the drama of dragging this court crisis out for the last remaining senate seat in Minnesota continues, my sister informs me that Norm Coleman has lost much good will with citizens of the state. Many across the board respected the mandatory recount, don't believe that there is excessive fraud and abuse with the voting process there, and are just ready for this to be wrapped up.

I have written before, Coleman is just that type of candidate that brings the "I can't believe he is running" candidate out to well, end up beating him at the ballot box. First, remember Jesse Ventura, the wrestler and sometimey actor, winning the governorship in Minnesota? Here was a man who was LITERALLY a disc jockey in the state, running for the hell of it, got the young folk riled up, and ended up beating Coleman. Now, we have a former Saturday Night Live alumnus, a known comic, a known satirist, who came back to Minnesota, raised the money needed to win the DFL label in the state, and beat Norm Coleman by a mandatory recount. Really, it does not get any better than this.

Now the court system has taken place, per Coleman's request and it does not look good Coleman. Remember, the person who is the leader always has the advantage, which is Franken. It means that Coleman must find votes, which he has not been able to do.

The Minnesota election court handed down two rulings tonight, one of which should be regarded as an unambiguous defeat for Norm Coleman -- and the other should probably leave Al Franken cautiously optimistic.

First, the court completely denied Coleman's motion to launch a class-action suit on behalf of all 11,000-plus voters whose absentee ballots have still not been counted. The court found that the state's election laws make clear that individuals may apply to have their ballots counted, but that groups cannot be created and represented for this purpose.

The court also handed down a summary judgment on Franken's efforts to get some of his own votes counted, and they've given him a go-ahead on 12 individuals to be accepted and counted at a later time. And to give you an idea of how strict a standard they're using here, there are 38 others on Franken's list they're refusing to count at this time.

That kind of stringency isn't very good news for Coleman, as he's trying to get a lot of his own votes in that the court hasn't ruled on yet. And considering he's the one who's actually behind right now, this question has a lot more urgency for him.

Investors can not deal with the stock market any longer

“Many investors simply can’t contemplate any more stock market risk in their portfolios,” said Fritz Meyer, the Denver- based senior market strategist for Invesco Aim, which oversees $357 billion. “Sentiment in the market is very weak and negative.”

That sums it up quite well. The stock market, today, is hazardous for your financial health. Ask anyone in the market who have lost money and 401K holders who are moving their money OUT of these funds. Oh, the stock market fell to 1997 levels, today.

Reality Bites. It does. This is what the market is going through and what Americans have realized. We can finger point until the cows come home, but in the end many Americans have lost massive amounts of money on the market and with the continued uncertainty of the banks in this country and the continuing foreclosures in the 10s of thousands daily in this country, nothing is guaranteed any longer.

As long as the financial house is still reeling, why should Americans still throw money into a market that is also responsible for where this country is financially now? With all these ponzi schemes unfolding daily, many Americans are doubtful of these investment firms. These firms did not do their job in making sure these securities were sound. Instead these firms fell into the "good old rich boy network" on Wall Street and trusted a colleague like Bernie Madoff, who ended up being the biggest scam artist of them all and one who never purchased any securities for his clients. In other words, people's statements by these firms were filled with falsehoods, fairytales and lies.

President Obama has hard times and choices ahead. Former President Bush and the Republican Party drove us into a ditch with the Iraq War, spent us through the roof, and have borrowed trillions of dollars from our adversary, China. This country has not made anything of substance for years and unemployment numbers will be dismal for some time.

We now are looking at throwing more money into Citibank, with Bank of America on Citi's heels, AIG needs more money or they are going belly up, and we are bracing for the Housing Plan from the Obama Administration.

Many Americans are still willing to give Obama a chance; it has only been like 34 days. It took eight years of total fiscal mismanagement to put us where we are at. These problems did not just show up, it was there for everyone to see but the Bush White House refused until they had to face it. 10,000 homes have been foreclosing in this country since 2005 and the Bush Administration KNEW IT, but failed to do anything about it. It is easy to point fingers, but right now everyone's home in this country is not worth what they thought it was and many are paying more for a house that has vanished in equity.

I don't think all Republicans want Obama to fail. The failure of the Obama Administration is the failure of us all. It means the worst for this country. But the Republicans need to be for something and I mean for more than just tax cuts. I understand they are trying to take the moral fiscal ground, but their credibility is shot because it was the Republican Party that put us where we are at now. The word fiscal in reference to the Republican Party is laughable now. Instead of the constant bickering and fighting, the Republicans need to try to work with President Obama in good faith. This is not only what this country wants but needs desperately. Both sides in leadership for the good of the country. Until we can really do this, the continued postering and pandering for the cameras will continue until 2012.

Isn't Washington, D.C. just grand?

Former Washington Governor, Gary Locke for Commerce Secretary

Looks like the push for Harold Ford, Jr. may have been just cable chatter.

President Barack Obama's likely third pick for Commerce secretary is former Washington Gov. Gary Locke, a senior administration official said Monday.

Locke was the nation's first Chinese-American governor when he served two terms in the Washington statehouse from 1997 to 2005.

Obama's expected choice of Locke arose less than two weeks after his most recent pick, Republican Sen. Judd Gregg of New Hampshire, backed out. Just over a week after Obama named him and he accepted, Gregg cited "irresolvable conflicts" with the policies of the Democratic president.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the announcement has not yet been made.

FLOTUS, Michelle Obama favorable in new poll

Well, we have come a very long way from the campaign trail when many in the media tried to smear Michelle Obama. Remember, she was supposed to make us run for cover, with her supposedly Anti-American rhetoric? Then the Democratic Convention came, the Obama Girls and their interaction with their father on national televison just stopped all that rhetoric cold.

Michelle Obama has been called a closer because many women, as well as men, can relate to her. She is not a woman who was fed with a silver spoon, but was grateful to have a spoon. Her persona is not one of privileged but of hard work ethic. Don't take the American public as air heads, they can sniff a fake and phoney on the trail, that was not Michelle Obama. This is a woman who kept and is still keeping it real.

Now since she has ascended into the White House and is the First Lady of this land, lovingly called FLOTUS, (First Lady of the United States) she is on the move, assembling and creating her agenda, and letting the POTUS (President of the United States) know first hand what the public is thinking when she is out there.

It is no surprise that she has become popular. Websites have popped up all over following her, like Michelle Obama Watch and Mrs. O. How do I know about these sites? Because I am one of the followers!!

Now to the CBS Poll. Michelle Obama is viewed more favorably than any other First Lady in 30 years. YES, what a difference a campaign trail makes!!

Overall, 49 percent of Americans have a favorable opinion of the first lady, just 5 percent view her unfavorably and 44 percent don’t yet have an opinion. In a February 1993 Times/CBS poll, 44 percent expressed a favorable view of Hillary Rodham Clinton, while 16 percent viewed her unfavorably. And early into Ronald Reagan’s first term in office, 28 percent rated Nancy Reagan positively, 10 percent negatively, with the rest offering no opinion.

[snip]

Not surprisingly, Democrats, liberals and women are among Mrs. Obama’s biggest fans. Seven in 10 Democrats and 2 in 3 liberals have a favorable opinion of her. Most women, 56 percent, also view her positively, compared with 41 percent of men. Still, Republicans, conservatives and men are not substantially more apt to view her negatively, they’re just much more likely to be withholding judgment just yet.

And if you missed FLOTUS' first black tie event, view the pictures here.

More Republican Asshattery, this time from Senator Jim Bunning (R-KY), Audio

Man, when you are on a roll like Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL), you just continue to show your true colors or ignorance.

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg had surgery for pancreatic cancer. No human would wish this on anyone or a family to endure, but the total lack of empathy from Senator Jim Bunning is just a stunner.

U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning predicted over the weekend that U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg would likely be dead from pancreatic cancer within nine months.

During a wide-ranging 30-minute speech on Saturday at the Hardin County Republican Party's Lincoln Day Dinner, Bunning said he supports conservative judges "and that's going to be in place very shortly because Ruth Bader Ginsburg … has cancer."

"Bad cancer. The kind that you don't get better from," he told a crowd of about 100 at the old State Theater.

I mean how much better can this get? To predict a person dead within a timeline so you can increase or keep the court conservative? Did Bunning not get the November 4th election results? Bad cancer, one you don't recover from? How horrible does this not only read but makes Bunning look? Kentucky is this what you must endure? Total asshattery from this supposedly senate statesman?

This is just speechless. Ignorance is running amuck.

For the record, Justice Ginsburg is back at work today.

[UPDATE]

Bunning issued an apology.
"I apologize if my comments offended Justice Ginsburg," said Bunning. "That certainly was not my intent. It is great to see her back at the Supreme Court today and I hope she recovers quickly. My thoughts and prayers are with her and her family."

Audio of what Bunning said about Ginsburg here.
