A-Rod, Alex Rodriguez admitted taking a banned substance (Off Topic)

When this story broke this weekend, I was not shocked.

Major League Baseball is mired with untruths from these athletes and even to an extent to the team they play for.

So, now A-Rod gives an exclusive to ESPN and admits he was stupid. Yes, very stupid and legacy is at risk. If you don't believe it, ask Mark McGuire.

Is it hypocritical? Yes, but everyone is doing it or has done it. And for what? The almighty dollar, that is for what.
His voice shaking at times, Alex Rodriguez met head-on allegations that he tested positive for steroids six years ago, telling ESPN on Monday that he did take performance-enhancing drugs while playing for the Texas Rangers during a three-year period beginning in 2001.

"When I arrived in Texas in 2001, I felt an enormous amount of pressure. I needed to perform, and perform at a high level every day," Rodriguez told ESPN's Peter Gammons in an interview in Miami Beach, Fla. "Back then, [baseball] was a different culture. It was very loose. I was young, I was stupid, I was naïve. I wanted to prove to everyone I was worth being one of the greatest players of all time.

"I did take a banned substance. For that, I'm very sorry and deeply regretful."

For me, baseball is a joke. Really, it is.

And remember, that Katie Couric asked A-Rod, directly if he used any PEDs and he said NO. December 17, 2007

Nissan slashing 20,000 Jobs

Even the foreign car makers are taking a huge hit in the automotive industry.

Nissan is slashing 20,000 jobs, or 8.5 percent of its global work force, to cope with what Japan's third-largest automaker expects will be its first annual loss in nine years.

"The global auto industry is in turmoil, and Nissan is no exception," Chief Executive Carlos Ghosn told reporters Monday in Tokyo.

Nissan Motor Co. now expects a 265 billion yen ($2.9 billion) net loss for the fiscal year through March — joining a raft of other Japanese corporate giants, including Toyota, Toshiba and Sony, in slashing jobs and projecting annual losses.

The last time Nissan racked up an annual net loss was for the fiscal year ended March 2000, at the start of its alliance with Renault SA of France, which sent in Ghosn to rescue Nissan from the brink of collapse. Then, a bloated Nissan had lost money in seven of the previous eight years.

Ghosn, now also chief executive at Renault, said the troubles back then had been limited to Nissan but no automaker has been spared from the global economic slump.

"In 1999, we were alone. In 2009, everybody is suffering," he said.

The maker of the Z sports car and the March compact sank to a loss of 83.2 billion yen for the October-December period from a 132.2 billion yen profit a year earlier. That was its first quarterly net loss since it began reporting quarterly earnings in 2003.

Like other Japanese automakers, Nissan has been battered by the global slump, which has undermined sales in its vital North American market. A strong yen also ate into profits by eroding overseas earnings when converted back to yen.

Mother of 8, Nadya Suleman, shows Octuplets on Today Show, Off Topic

The babies are shown on television. After viewing her first interview (the mother of 14, Nadya Suleman) and this one, my take the woman is not viewing reality. She is delusional, stating after she finishes her schooling she will be able to take care of her children. A mother who is unmarried, no job, living with her parents, and will definitely be looking for money for this story either here in the U.S. or abroad. Suleman says she is not accepting any welfare, but must have forgot that food stamps and SSI payments are government assistance programs. And disability payments for 3 of her 6 kids, but will not say what their disabilities are? And her family? Well, her mother is tired of it and overwhelmed. And states, "The truth is Nadya's not capable of raising 14 children." Finally, who is going to take care of all these kids? The State of California? A church? But for how long?

Michael Steele, "Please take a drink of REALITY." (Video and Transcript from ABCs This Week with George Stephanopoulous)

Is this what the Republicans want? What reality channel is Steele on? Public sector jobs (government) are not real jobs, but private sector jobs don't go away? Steele ask the 600K folks that got pink slips in January. Really, WTF! And that taint of corruption on Steele? How can you justify making or transferring payments to a defunct company from your 2006 senate bid, owned by your sister and she did not know it was still in business? How WTF is that? If I was George Stephanopoulos, I would be confused, too.

Now Governor Kathleen Sebelius is being floated for Secretary of HHS

We know that Governor Phil Bredesen would be a diaster in this post, though the rumor is that he is being vetted. Oy!!! Now we have Governor Kathleen Sebelius (D-KS) emerging.

I was definitely a supporter for Sebelius being Obama's Vice-Presidential choice. She would have been a real change breaker, but we all know what was going on BACK THEN, with threats not to make it so.

So here is what the rumor mill is stating:

In a sign that she is getting a close look for Secretary of Health and Human Services, Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius recently met with senior White House adviser Valerie Jarrett, according to two Obama administration officials.

Sebelius has a good personal relationship with the President and remained in the running for the vice presidential slot until near the end of the process, the officials also told CNN.

But the officials cautioned that President Obama is considering others for HHS as well. Those getting a look include Oregon Democrat Sen. Ron Wyden and Tennessee’s Democratic Gov. Phil Bredesen, according to the officials.

White House spokesman Reid Cherlin stressed to CNN that "no decision has been made." But Cherlin added the President "is moving quickly in filling this critical role."

The President's first nominee for the post, former Sen. Tom Daschle, stepped aside after questions were raised about his failure to pay more than $100,000 in taxes for consulting fees and the use of a car and driver.

h/t to AMERICAblog for this statement that wraps up why Governor Phil Bredesen should NOT the Secretary of HHS:
"A lot of elected officials are in bed with the insurance industry, but Phil Bredesen doesn't stop there. He let them pay to redecorate his mansion. We can't think of anyone more wrong for health care reform or more wrong for America," said Jacki Schechner, spokeswoman for Health Care for America Now. "This is a guy whose single greatest health care achievement is stripping 200,000 people of health care coverage in Tennessee - a move that was not only bad policy but an unconscionable act."

Talk about not only confirmation DISASTER, but the crossing of the line in ethics.

Obama to expand National Securiy Council

President Barack Obama plans to expand the membership of the National Security Council and increase its authority to set strategy on a wide range of domestic and international issues, The Washington Post reported on Saturday, quoting his national security adviser.

The council, which was established after World War Two to advise U.S. presidents on military and diplomatic matters, would become "dramatically different" after the overhaul, national security adviser James Jones told the paper in an interview.

"The world that we live in has changed so dramatically in this decade that organizations that were created to meet a certain set of criteria no longer are terribly useful," Jones, a retired Marine general, was quoted as saying.

He said sections of the government not traditionally part of the council would be brought in on a case-by-case basis -- he named the Energy Department, Commerce Department and Treasury, and all the law enforcement agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration.

"New NSC directorates will deal with such department-spanning 21st-century issues as cyber security, energy, climate change, nation-building and infrastructure," the Post said.

Jones said the new structure would be outlined in a presidential directive, probably in the coming week.

The Closer is at it again

When I was traveling to Iowa before the Iowa Caucus, one thing I learned fast is the high respect Michelle Obama received from many women in that state and also the men. Every speech Obama gave or town hall meeting, Michelle Obama went right behind him and closed the deal to thousands of Iowans. She is that good.

We now see that Michelle Obama is making her rounds to the various cabinet level agencies, telling workers that they are needed and valued, but more importantly seeking out the various parts of her husband's stimulus package and how it benefits each department.

Last week she visited the Department(s) of Education and Housing and Urban Development. She was received wildly, she was funny and gracious, but she was on point with each speech delivered. Telling folk at each agency that she and Barack are now their neighbors and she meant it.

No one should be surprised at this by the Obama Administration. Barack and Michelle Obama are a team in every aspect of their marriage, partners for life. Everyone can see this in how they handled themselves in public and the respect they have for one another. What we see in public is a precedent; this is something we have not seen in a very long time from the residents of the White House. The Obamas are unafraid of stating how they feel, what their vision is and how "we the public" must help them to invoke it, if we, the public want change.

Is Michelle a co-president? Absolutely not, she is not creating policy and guidelines, but she is a listener, a closer. She is the very person who can state how she feels, transfer how the public feels, directly to her husband and can even give him that eye of, "do something about it." In the end, I don't know if many believe in pillow talk, but I most certainly do.

The government workers greeted Michelle Obama like a Hollywood celebrity, whooping and cheering and oohing and aahing over her slate gray power suit. But when she took to the podium, the nation’s self-described mom in chief quickly turned policy wonk.

The first lady pitched her husband’s economic stimulus package, including plans to create 15,000 affordable housing units, weatherize 2 million low-income homes and repair military housing. Such investments, Mrs. Obama told employees at the Department of Housing and Urban Development, would prevent “an increase in homelessness during these tough economic times.”

In her first weeks in the White House, Mrs. Obama has been the gracious hostess and loyal spouse, welcoming visitors to the Executive Mansion and accompanying President Obama to a prayer breakfast and to a charter school to read to second graders. But in a departure from her predecessor, Mrs. Obama has also begun promoting bills that support her husband’s policy priorities.

Last month, Mrs. Obama celebrated the enacting of a pay-equity law with a reception for women’s advocates at the White House. Last week, she supported the economic stimulus bill on her visit to the housing agency and another to the Department of Education.

Mrs. Obama plans to visit all the cabinet-level agencies on her tour to listen to and get to know Washington in the coming weeks, her aides say. They said she relished the chance to serve as one of the president’s chief surrogates on critical policy matters.

“One of the things she does really well is to highlight the benefits of pieces of legislation,” said Jackie Norris, Mrs. Obama’s chief of staff. “She’s really kind of laying out things that are important to the administration. I think she’ll play an active role in ssupporting the president’s agenda.” read more here

I saw this last night, Senator Vitter and his b.s. against ACORN

Senator David Vitter (R-LA) went against ACORN in his weak amendment last night, an organization that HELPED his state (Louisiana) during Hurricane Katrina, but this is about trying to save his ass for the Republican primary in 2010. In other words, really burnish those conservative credentials. Are you laughing in mockery or hypocrisy, yet?

But it took my senator, Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) who schooled this fool, back to school.

Please understand Twitter

Especially for national security reasons.

A congressional trip to Iraq this weekend was supposed to be a secret.

But the cat's out of the bag now, thanks to a member of the House Intelligence Committee who broke an embargo via Twitter.

A delegation led by House Minority Leader John A. Boehner , R-Ohio, arrived in Iraq earlier today, and because of Rep. Peter Hoekstra , R-Mich., the entire world -- or at least Twitter.com readers -- now know they're there.

"Just landed in Baghdad," messaged Hoekstra, a former chairman of the Intelligence panel and now the ranking member, who is routinely entrusted to keep some of the nation's most closely guarded secrets.

Before the delegation left Washington, they were advised to keep the trip to themselves for security reasons. A few media outlets, including Congressional Quarterly, learned about it, but agreed not to disclose anything until the delegation had left Iraq.

Nobody expected, though, that a lawmaker with such an extensive national security background would be the first to break the silence. And in such a big way.

I have a twitter account, upper right hand corner and throw my posts up to tweet for viewers, but did this congressman understand that twitter is like that lonely goldfish in the bowl? In other words, ALL EYES ON YOU. But this is the jugular:
And yet, Hoekstra, who was told not to talk about this trip, not only shared its existence on Twitter, but "included details about their itinerary in updates posted every few hours on his Twitter page."

Think he understands twitter now?
