Wall Street worries about the banks again? And?
I am sorry, but no pity party for banks here.
We can not save the innovation that put America on the map, the auto industry, but we can give more money to banks that put themselves in this predicament because of sheer greed? The same organizations that don't understand that bonuses in the millions to folks that put the economy where it is just is unacceptable, while American families are struggling partly because of their bad decision making?
Puh-leaze. No pity here.
Obama Administration trend very carefully here. If you want the auto industry to go bankrupt, you for damn sure better make sure some of these banks go down the drain, as well. If you don't, many middle class Americans won't get that picture, AT ALL.
Anxiety is growing again over the health of the nation's largest banks, and with Congress hesitant to commit more money, the Obama administration is exploring ways to strengthen them in the face of an unrelenting recession.
Results of the federal government's "stress tests" on big banks are due May 4, and Wall Street is increasingly worried they will show some banks are in worse shape than expected.
The renewed bank fears drove the stock market down on Monday in its worst showing in six weeks. Bank of America stock lost nearly a quarter of its value, and the Dow Jones industrial average fell almost 290 points.
Bank of America reported a first-quarter profit of $2.8 billion, joining other banks whose earnings reports have looked positive at first blush. But some analysts say accounting steps are concealing the depth of the financial industry's woes.
The banks have been helped by income from trading and cheap borrowing, but they are still struggling with bad debt, said Joe Saluzzi, co-head of equity trading at Themis Trading LLC.
Investors are "looking at bank numbers and are saying they are not that great," he said.

Dick Cheney slams Obama, again on Hannity (Video)
Slick Dick, the last person to give advice or analysis on anything. Here he goes again on the worthless Hannity Show.
It is the constant rhetoric that has turned many from the Republican Party.
Lastly, who wants to take any advice from Dick Cheney? The worst Vice-President in HISTORY.

Obama, reaching out ot enemies makes sense
YES.IT.DOES.
Defending his brand of world politics, President Barack Obama said Sunday that he is "strengthening our hand" by reaching out to enemies of the United States and making sure that the nation is a leader, not a lecturer, of democracy.Obama's foreign doctrine emerged across his four-day trip to Latin America, his first extended venture to a region of the world where resentment of U.S. power still lingers. He got a smile, handshakes and even a gift from incendiary leftist leader Hugo Chavez of Venezuela, and embraced overtures of new relations from isolated Cuban President Raul Castro.
"The whole notion was that if we showed courtesy or opened up dialogue with governments that had previously been hostile to us, that that somehow would be a sign of weakness," Obama said, recalling his race for the White House and challenging his critics today.
"The American people didn't buy it," Obama said. "And there's a good reason the American people didn't buy it — because it doesn't make sense." read more here.....

Obama is making us look weak
Amazing, just amazing that folks like Joe Scarborough and Pat Buchanan can sit up on television and state that Obama is making the U.S. look weak. Shaking hands with Hugo Chavez is a gesture. Remember, George W. Bush said that he could look into Putin's sole and know he is a good man. See how far that got us? At least Obama did not make a stupid statement like that, but acted like a gracious politician that he is.
It is smarmy statements like this that did not help us fight the Iraq War, which bankrupted this country, don't believe it, ask our banker named, China. But the right winged talkers are exploding at the seams because of a handshake.
Concerned troll Buchanan states that Obama is being made a mockery of, accepting the anti-American book by Chavez. What does this mean? Absolutely, nothing. One thing we have learned is that Barack Obama is a gracious man, who is also a hard ball politician. Don't believe it? Ask Hillary Clinton or John McCain, whose dust was left on the election road by Obama. Taking a picture, shaking a hand, means nothing. But being in the room with persons of state who we have direct disagreement and starting dialogue is a beginning.
Concerned trolls Joe Scarborough and Pat Buchanan seem to have limited memory. Let me refresh it for you. Barack Obama campaigned on retaining our stature in the international arena, it means having conversation with those countries who may hate us. It was the "us against them" attitude that left the United States isolated in the War of Terror.
The former administration left an international mess, besides the domestic one, it is up to our new head of state to push forward the new policy of the United States of America. To say he is a mockery or failure and not even 100 days in is psycho talk, as Ed Schultz puts it.
I guess the only way that conservatives or so called conservatives can go forward is by the daily pounding of images they think they see, instead of being real about it. The Fox News of the world with Nazi images and comparing Obama as one is one of the main reasons that the Republican Party is on the outs right now in this country.
The same old spin, rinse, repeat is all the conservatives have right now.

Hugo Chavez sending Venezuelan ambassor to Washington, DC
We know what the deal is about Obama shaking Chavez hand.
OMG. If he shakes his hand that means the end of democracy here in the U.S.A.!!!!! It means more of the against us countries will rally more against us.
The right wing nuts need to take a vicodin. Barack Obama is not George W. Bush, who happened to destroy all our luster, stature and trust worldwide. Obama is doing what he said he would from the set, broker relationships with these countries to see if we can find a common ground.
We had the old style, fuck 'em up cowboy style in the White House and see where we are at? nuff said. Time to do something new or bring back a throwback theme, how about some good old diplomacy? As we see Secretary Clinton flying worldwide to broker relationships, open doors, we are watching President Obama start to go through the doors.
If this country wanted to continue the George W. Bush style, Obama would be sitting in the senate.
again, nuff said.
h/t to Today With President Barack Obama
As the media is writing that Obama "got punked" or spun by Hugo Chavez, Chavez takes a step in the right direction and says that he'll send a Venezuelan ambassador back to Washington.
It isn't Obama getting punked, it is the media responding to the irrational conservatives who are out of their gourds about Obama shaking Chavez's hand. It was obvious what Chavez was doing and who could blame him? Everyone wants to get next to Obama. It shines a positive light on them. That doesn't mean they're best buds but it's easy for a small mind to start with the socialist rants. If Obama shakes the hand of a socialist, that must mean he's a socialist, according to conservatives. We have to do a better job of educating are kids because we have too many people growing up with but a sliver of a mind.

Hugo Chavez wants to be Obama's friend (Video)
Chavez gave President Obama a gift, a book.
The Venezuelan's office reported Chavez told Obama: "With this same hand I greeted Bush eight years ago. I want to be your friend."
Chavez is one of those leaders that you keep one eye on your back. Sure, many Latin American leaders are angry at the US, especially for the Cuba situation, for that it is understandable, but with the Bush Administration gone and many hard core anti-Castro folks diminishing, there is no reason for the Obama Administration not to go forward with open dialouge. This 2009, not 1959, the embargo against Cuba should have been lifted YEARS AGO, now it looks like it is heading in that direction.
pssssttttt....the book in question, "Open Veins of Latin America: Five Centuries of the Pillage of a Continent" was number 60,280 on amazon.com, Friday, today number 10 on amazon.com. Oprah, move over, there is a new "O" in town.....

They Hate Him Because He Is "Black"
This is a must read by Turkana, posted @ Daily Kos. Gives many something to think about and pause. We all know this teabaggin' was a veil reason to rally in contempt against Barack Obama. The thing is this, blatant, outright hate does not wear well on television. Don't believe me? Ask John McCain or Sarah Palin. Their rallies brought the hate out in full force, but it was America who sat and watched and made the decision, "enough of that noise", and voted Obama. Lastly, this is not aimed at the Republicans or GOP, most of them are not on the hate page, but it is that other 1/3 that is running around in that party that makes them more yesterday than ever before. This is 2009, not 1959.
P.S. Obama was born in Hawaii in 1961, his birth certificate has been on line since 2008, but again some bottom feeders will never accept fact, as we see from a teabaggin' protest below.
I deliberately use the word black rather than the words African American. The latter lacks the proper emotional value. It is cultural and geographical. The former is visceral. Bigotry is not subtle. It is primal. It is not about ideas. It is irrational.
He is smarter and more educated and more articulate than they. A self-made man, he represents everything they would claim to value. But he looks different, to them. They hate him because he looks different. They hate him because he is dark. In "Western" "Culture," the very words black and dark have powerfully negative value. They often are used as synonyms for the sinister.
They hated President Clinton, and tried to destroy him. But one of their elected governors didn't talk secession. They didn't talk revolution. They didn't attempt (and miserably fail) to launch nationwide protests against him. Bill Clinton was a lot of things. He was not black.
President Obama is no crazy liberal. He is increasing defense spending. Even Alan Greenspan is suggesting economic solutions more akin to "socialism." Gun lovers have nothing to fear. On policy grounds, we crazy liberals have been criticizing him from day one. The radical right have been lambasting him. With the nation fighting two wars and an economic meltdown, they openly hope he fails. But they are not about policy. They are about hatred. And they hate Obama as they have never hated any president. It's not complicated.
The Department of Homeland Security just warned:Right-wing extremists have capitalized on the election of the first African American president, and are focusing their efforts to recruit new members, mobilize existing supporters, and broaden their scope and appeal through propaganda, but they have not yet turned to attack planning.
"Extremist" is now a corporate media phenomenon. Glenn Beck? Rush Limbaugh? Ann Coulter? Bill O'Reilly? Faux News?
They hate him not because of policy or politics. They hate him because of who he is. Not like them. By the color of his skin. It's time to stop pretending or excusing or evading the obvious. They hate him because he is black!
