From John Conyers: Obama sucking up to the wrong people

Wow.

This is all about frustration.

No matter what happens with health care and Afghanistan, the number one priority is JOBS in this country and the LACK of job creation in this country. That is an issue the public gets, understands, is going through and will penalize the Democrats if there is no turn around next year. Take that one to the bank and deposit it.

President Barack Obama is “getting bad advice from… clowns” on Afghanistan and “sucking up to the wrong people” on health care, U.S. Rep. John Conyers told a Detroit radio audience this morning, according to show host Rev. Horace Sheffield.

Conyers, a Detroit Democrat, made the comments during a discussion about the effects of the economic recession on the urban poor, Sheffield said. The liberal congressman expressed frustration that health care legislation pending in Washington, D.C., was too solicitous of insurance companies and special interests, Sheffield said.

“He wasn’t angry. He was just deeply concerned that some of the issues being focused on don’t address the human reality,” said Sheffield, who hosts the program “On The Line” on WGPR-FM radio.

According to a news release from Sheffield, Conyers said: “President Obama is sucking up to the wrong people and insurance companies as Obama pushed a weak health care package.”

On Iraq and Afghanistan, Conyers said “President Obama is getting bad advice from those clowns in the White House. We should be ending those wars now. America should be providing food instead of bombs from drones that kill innocent civilians,” the release said.

Conyers, an early supporter of Obama’s presidential bid in 2007, could not be reached for comment Saturday afternoon.

Expect some backpeddling and clarification from Conyers, soon.

Crazy folks showed up at Rep. John Dingell's Town Hall in Michigan

This is a first hand report with photos of what happened at Congressman Dingell's (D-MI) town hall meeting. Including the teabaggers showing up with Obama as Hitler posters, which is totally disrespectful.

I don't know how all this is going to play out, but we all need to be at our congress critters town hall meetings. In fact, a lot of this is getting down right dangerous.

I went to Representative, John Dingell's (D-MI), Town Hall meeting in Romulus, MI this evening. There was so many people that the emcee from the AARP (don't recall his name) said they will have two Town Hall meetings.

Needless to say, the meeting should have been held in a mental institution with Dingell supporters outnumbered by a minimum of 5 to 1.

There was a long line to get into the meeting place. I got a place in the front along with some other Dingell supporters. It didn't matter. Out of approximately 225 people in attendance, at most 40 supported Rep. Dingell.

Also, out of the 225 people in attendance, only 4 were minorities and one was a member of the LaRouche organization.

Michigan has to take responsibility, too.

I know everyone is up in arms over the Obama speech, but there is much more going on here.

The Automotive Industry, the big three, knew this was coming, this is nothing new.

Folks working for the big three saw folks not buying these cars, not with the price tag or bad mileage attached.

The economy is part of this, but folks had already started to ease away from those SUVs, Trucks, fancy price tags. This is nothing new, this was coming a while ago.

Al Gore got laughed in his face from the big wigs in Michigan. He told them about CAFE standards and they laughed him out of Michigan.

These fat cats did not want to change. They wanted to remain the same.

Well, when you come to the government for help to not prop you up, but pick you up before you hit the garbage heap, you must conform.

I feel the pain for those who are losing jobs, lost jobs, won't get jobs back, etc. But, the decisions in Michigan must be dealt with.

I know many are also angered at President Obama about not doing enough to Wall Street. I don't know how many times I must write this, Obama does nothing without all the facts. The banks have not opened up all their books, the stress tests on these banks are not done. When this is complete and they need more money, as the car industry does, you will hear the Obama blast to them, as we heard today to the car industry.

Also politicians in Michigan must take heat also. All of them. They have protected the car industry for decades. For Granholm to act shocked is a joke. There is no one on here who can write that Granholm did not know what was about to happen. She knew. This is about salvaging what she can. Both senators from Michigan are great, but they have stood with an industry that has REFUSED to change. This industry's refusal put them where we are at now.

Where is the UAW? I can tell you where they are at. Numb and quiet. They have seen the books and know that there is either concessions or bankruptcy. It is as plain and clear as that. The suppliers? It won't be like it used to be and there will be fewer of them when this is over. Retirees? They will see some cuts in benefits. It is either that or go bankrupt. Go bankrupt, who will cut your check then? Car dealerships will shrink tremendously in this country. And there will be more unemployment. Folks up in arms, keep the jobs!! What jobs? How can we keep the jobs when the supply is more than the demand and has been that way BEFORE the September hit? Who is out there buying a 30,000 car? NOBODY. Hard decisions down the immediate road.

None of us like what has happened but this is the reality of now. You can't suck blood from a turnip when it is dry or dead already. The auto industry put this country on the map of innovation, but in the end refused to innovate themselves. Now it is either bankruptcy or conform and change. They can either take it or leave it.

And the Republicans? They don't have a pot to piss in, nor a window to throw it out of. They can not come back to Michigan and say, "I was for you, saving your jobs", when they are on video saying let the automotive industry go bankrupt. Which do we want? The Republican way or the Obama Administration way to help this industry get back in the saddle?

This is tough love. This is what we voted for, leadership, this is what we are getting the hard decisions. And Waggoner had to go.

McCain Campaign announced it is pulling out of Michigan. This means that the fight will be in Ohio and Pennsylvania. He must hold Ohio and must snatch Pennsylvania. But I will go further and agree with the Politico article.

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) now must win Pennsylvania, Wisconsin or Minnesota in order to get enough electoral votes to win the presidency, his campaign says.

Those were considered swing states in 2000 and 2004, but George W. Bush lost them both times.

“Our ability to pick off one of those three states is where our fortunes are largely held,” a McCain official said. “These are states where Barack Obama is on the defense.

McCain must win one of those states. Personally and based on demographics, Pennsylvania will be close and McCain could win this state. Minnesota and Wisconsin, I don't see McCain winning. Minnesota has always been an independent minded state, always have leaned democratic. Wisconsin is a meat and potatoes state, always have cared about the economy. Again, if McCain snatches one of these states, I see Pennsylvania. It still is a tall order for the McCain Campaign.

Lastly, the push is for voter registration. Half the country voter registration ends on Monday, October 6, 2008. It is imparative to get as many registered to vote as possible. All the information and registration forms you need is here. Please pass the link along.

Can't stand to barely shake Obama's hand

It was Senator Barack Obama who crossed the aisle.

As the senators gathered to vote on the $700 billion financial rescue package on Wednesday evening, Mr. Obama walked over to the Republican side of the chamber to extend a greeting to Senator John McCain.

He got a chilly response.

While it took Mr. Obama several seconds to make his way over to see his rival, Mr. McCain barely pivoted his body as he took Mr. Obama’s hand for a handshake that lasted just a moment. The eye contact was just as brief. continue

HELLO!!!!!! Is this not the same nasty attitude, condescending attitude that is partially responsible for McCain's tank in the polls? This same horrible attitude that McCain let the world see last Friday? Keep it up. That is a real winning attitude.

After prison, felons regain right to vote in Ohio

For years, Wayne C. Bell didn't vote.

After serving three years for aggravated robbery in his 20s, Bell didn't even inquire about reclaiming his voting rights. He assumed that as a felon, he couldn't cast a vote.

It wasn't true, he now knows. In Ohio, ex-offenders are allowed to vote once they've served their time.

But it sure is hard to erase the myth that so many Ohioans seem to believe, said the 50-year-old Clevelander, who calls himself a "soap boxer" when it comes to encouraging people to register, vote and hold politicians accountable. "It's widespread that felons think they can't vote," he said.

As Monday's deadline for Ohio voters to register draws near, workers who are signing up last-minute voters are learning what Bell already knows - it can be tough convincing felons that they truly are able to participate in the November election. continue

McCain is pulling out of Michigan.

I wrote a diary a few weeks back, when the "lipstick on the pig" frenzy by the McCain Campaign was going on. Though the diary was about absurdity of vacuum issues and not real issues in the campaign, I talked about money.

Right now we are seeing the power of the Obama Campaign, by not taking federal public financing money the campaign is allowed to spend wherever and do basically whatever. Not so, for the McCain Campaign.

I stated to watch the movement, not Barack's but McCain. Pulling out of Michigan is huge. Yes, Obama pulled out of Alaska, Georgia but those were tepid battleground states. Michigan is ALWAYS a true battleground state. It is also a very large state to cover, organization wise and money wise. If you go to pollster.com or fivethirtyeight.com, to your right, you will see why McCain is pulling out of Michigan. The numbers are not there and the economy and mortgage meltdown of Michigan is real. How dire is Michigan? Read about a woman purchasing a home in Saginaw, Michigan from eBay for $1.75. Yes, you read it correctly.

This is about almost 30 days left for the election. This is about 2 presidential debates left and hopes that McCain can turn it around to the public, policy wise. This is about McCain now having to defend North Carolina, Indiana, Florida, Virginia, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, and Ohio all the states Bush won. This is about money, organization, manpower and having only 84 Million to spend it on.

Is this good? Yes, but we have a little over 30 days left and anything can happen. Right now the McCain Campaign are working feverishly to get Palin off the front page of being a laughing stock and hoping the economy will demise. The McCain Campaign can get Palin off the front pages after tonight by limiting her to only "friendly based conservative media", but the economy is going nowhere. Their challenge is to inject new dynamics in this race to move folks off the economy; this is where their character strategy will come to bear. Expect it; they are bleeding heavy right now.

Lastly, the next state I expect to move from McCain is Pennsylvania. Obama has just about closed the deal in New Mexico and Iowa is in Obama's column. McCain has never had any real infrastructure in Iowa, but he does need to worry about the West, which is slowly moving to Obama.

No doubt the economy is key to many voters. It is tough out here. Many are losing jobs, wages are not going up if you have a job, housing market is a mess and folks are just worried about the future in this country.

I wrote a while back that John McCain may have just ended his campaign by stating, "The fundamentals of the economy are strong." I still believe he just may have done that.

The Republicans will attempt to pull out all the tricks in November. They are willing to go so low as to take foreclosed homes/addresses and challenge voters at the polls. Already announced that they would do it in Michigan. This is call suppressing the vote, scaring you away.

This started in the Michigan Messenger with the article, "Lose your house, lose your vote".

The chairman of the Republican Party in Macomb County, Michigan, a key swing county in a key swing state, is planning to use a list of foreclosed homes to block people from voting in the upcoming election as part of the state GOP’s effort to challenge some voters on Election Day.

“We will have a list of foreclosed homes and will make sure people aren’t voting from those addresses,” party chairman James Carabelli told Michigan Messenger in a telephone interview earlier this week. He said the local party wanted to make sure that proper electoral procedures were followed.

Well, this story spread like wildfire on the internet and Carabelli was taken to TASK. Now, he is back peddling the story and said, of course, he did not make the statement.

One political blog accuses him of hatching "the most evil plan in modern Republican history."

Other activists say he's trying to steal votes and disenfranchise African-American voters.

But James Carabelli, chairman of the Macomb County Republican Party, said Thursday it was all a fabrication -- that he never told a reporter the GOP plans to use poll challengers to block residents with foreclosed homes from voting in November.

The interview ignited responses from across the country, with some political observers saying the very idea of linking foreclosures with voting rights could have a chilling effect on turnout.

"Sometimes it doesn't take much to keep people away from the polls," said John Klemanski, a Macomb County native who has taught political science at Oakland University for more than 20 years.

Well, the Obama Campaign did not sit on its laurels, lawsuit filed.

On afternoon conference call, Obama and Michigan Democratic officials say they’re seeking an injunction to block alleged “caging” by the state GOP — using home foreclosure lists to seek to block residents from voting.

Obama counsel Bob Bauer: “It is an absolute attack on their right to vote” and a “completely false and completely illegal basis” to challenge votes.

“This is a standard operating procedure within the Republican party that’s been under legal challenge.”

This is a nasty, shady attempt of the lowest form. This economy is in the tank because of the leadership of the Republican Party. Now there is rumor that the Republican Party will try to do the same thing in Ohio. This is caging. The Ohio Secretary of State is already fighting this.

In 2004, Ohio was in an uproar over a tactic known as "caging," in which a political party calls for voters to be stricken from the rolls because mail sent to them was returned as "undeliverable." In the last presidential election, the state Republican party used returned mail to challenge the registrations of 35,000 new voters, most of whom lived in urban, heavily Democratic areas.

Not many voters were successfully removed, because "there was so much litigation and public backlash," said Teresa James, a lawyer in Ohio for Project Vote, a nonprofit voter-registration group. But she said some voters likely were intimidated by the challenges and stayed home.

On Sept. 5, Ms. Brunner told election boards that Republicans had passed a law concerning caging that she considered unconstitutional, and that a single returned election notice cannot be used as the sole basis to cancel a voter's residency. She also said every challenged voter must be notified and given a chance to attend a hearing before Election Day.

I am GLAD that the Obama Campaign is on this. The GOP will be watched very carefully in EVERY PRECINCT. Folks who lost their homes, homeless, etc., right to vote should not be taken away.

This is the Republican Values and their roses STINK.

Texans are ravaged by Ike, and the press has LIMITED access to tell the REAL STORY

The few hundred holdouts on Texas' ravaged Bolivar Peninsula will be required to leave in the next few days, and officials said Tuesday they are ready to use emergency powers to empty the barrier island scraped clean by Hurricane Ike.

The threat came as the death toll in the Houston area rose by six, bringing the number of people killed in Texas to 17. The new deaths, all after Ike made landfall, were tied to carbon monoxide poisoning, a home fire and falling tree limbs. Ike has claimed 47 lives in 10 states as it spread inland.

In the Bolivar incident, Judge Jim Yarbrough, the top elected official in Galveston County, said the roughly 250 people who defied warnings they would be killed if they rode out the storm in the rural coastal community are a "hardy bunch" and there are some "old timers who aren't going to want to leave."

Galveston should be of extreme concern. There is NOTHING coming from there on death toll and an estimate of 25,000 people stayed. If you have seen the pictures out of Galveston, you KNOW that death occurred there. The thing is what is the count and why is the media given limited access? Also, where the hell is FEMA? Folks on the coast are literally down to NO WATER, FOOD. Electricity will not be up for weeks, along with gas. And Galveston? Forget it. We are looking at MONTHS. Lies, Fabrication, Sick, Cunning, Unscrupulous, that is McCain

I know many are caught up on Sarah Palin. You can read all you need about her, here. Just listen to Palin on national security, nuff said. There is so much documentation on her lies, thus far in this campaign; it just makes one shake their heads. I literally can not keep up!!

In the end, this is about John McCain and how he and his campaign has just accepted all these lies trumped up about Obama, made them public, repeat them as true, and just don't give a mickey-fickey if we like it or not.

Enter; the electorate is stupid, frame. This is what the McCain Campaign is running on.

Secondly, the McCain Campaign is running against the press. Joe Scarborough stated that he did not think this strategy would work, but it is a wait and see. The bloggers have been effective in documenting and pushing "McCain is a liar" narrative, forcing the McCain Campaign to respond. But they have been tepid, at best. The explanation that McCain has given about the lies and smears against Obama is this, "I think the tone of this whole campaign would have been very different if Senator Obama had accepted my request for us to appear in town hall meetings all across America, the same way Jack Kennedy and Barry Goldwater had agreed to do so. I know that because I’ve been in enough campaigns." As if this would not have happened anyway? Like this is a solid explanation to lie away? Again, expecting the electorate to be stupid and believe whatever comes out of this campaign's mouth.

The media has also been called out for not doing their PAID JOBS, which is reporting the news accurately. It took the women from "The View" to make McCain squirm on that couch. Expecting this would be a nice, touchy-feely interview, turned into why are you lying and stating "I approve this message?" When you, John McCain know this ad was a lie! Or Ari Melber on MSNBC to call out Brad Blakeman, Republican hack for backing an outright liar. Recently, there have been some hard hitting media pieces on McCain's untruthful ads, but my concern is this, "Is the public hearing this or listening?"

That for me is the million dollar question.

In closing, John McCain has traded his stature as a honorable, straight-talk, honest candidate to one who will do or say anything to win. Overall, he is misleading, a fraud, and a fabricator, corrupt, crooked, shady, deceitful and dishonest.

If McCain is all of that, throw Sarah "the empty skirt" along in that pile, too.

Greenspan Says McCain Tax Plan Needs Corresponding Budget Cuts

Former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan said the country can't afford $3.3 trillion of tax cuts proposed by Republican presidential nominee John McCain without corresponding spending reductions.

Greenspan, a lifelong Republican and longtime friend of McCain, said today on Bloomberg Television's ``Political Capital With Al Hunt'' that ``I'm not in favor of financing tax cuts with borrowed money.''

McCain has said he would balance the cost of most of his tax cuts with budget reductions, while providing few details beyond eliminating earmarks and other pork-barrel spending, which have totaled about $171 billion since 2001. Democratic nominee Barack Obama is proposing fewer tax cuts and more ambitious spending programs.

Greenspan said he has ``mixed feelings'' about a second government economic-stimulus bill after the U.S. provided a $168 billion package in February. While such an action may increase the budget deficit at a time when spending on retirees' medical benefits is about to cause ``big'' financial problems, it may also boost economic growth, he said. continue

Obama talks economy in Flint, Michigan

Democrat Barack Obama had a message for his Republican opponent on Monday: Visit Flint if you want to witness the effects of a lagging economy.

The presidential nominee issued the challenge to Arizona Sen. John McCain here after recalling his rival's recent claim that the economy is "fundamentally sound."

"He needs to come to Flint and meet some of these folks," Obama told an invitation-only crowd of more than 200 at Mott Community College. "You don't need to tell people in Flint ... that our economy is not in good shape. But you do need to tell John McCain."

Obama gave a roughly 30-minute speech to mostly union workers and campaign volunteers before taking a handful of questions from the audience. The Illinois senator touched on Flint's high unemployment and housing crisis, all the while criticizing McCain's recent claims that the Republican ticket is for change.

Obama said McCain and his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, are trying to repackage themselves as agents of change. He said his campaign has run on a slogan of change from the beginning.

"And it must be working, because suddenly John McCain said, 'I'm for change, too,'" Obama said. continue

Obama and McCain are 30 miles apart from each other in Michigan

Funny, this is my thought, McCain/Palin are doing a lot of rallies now. Nothing wrong with rallies, but Obama got a rap about doing these rallies a lot in the early days. Now he is sticking more with town hall meetings, a few a day, and moving through each state. It just feels that McCain has either copied what Hillary had done or what Barack has done.

Anyhow, Barack is giving a speech on Education in Riverside and McCain a rally in Lebanon, this morning.
