Bill Moyers calls for draft if President Obama escalates the troops in Afghanistan (Video)

The reality is that we are not going to win in Afghanistan without MORE PEOPLE. As long as Obama continues to do what George W. Bush did, rinse and repeating the reserves in this country, he is no better than George W. Bush.

We have been over there for 8 years, and please don't tell me that we did not have a plan, I know that, but the fact and reality is that 8 years is 8 years. Does anyone think 40,000 troops are going to help over there? I don't. We need about half million to make any type of dent, but don't have the numbers.

What will Barack Obama do? Work for peace? Or continue the beating drums of a war we will NEVER WIN.

Good for Moyers who so often functions as our nation's conscience. That's when the Vietnam War finally was seen for the lie it was--when the middle class saw that they could not leave the War to those who could not afford to go to college and their own sons were going to fight and die over half the world away to "stop Communism."
While we send our children to fight and die in Afghanastan, what's to stop the terrorists from simply moving on into Pakistan or IndoChina? Are we going to go there, too? Police the world?
We have to start thinking! Spreading the pain worked to stop Vietnam. It would here, too.

What a dumbass idea !
That's all we need is to alienate the Democratic party just like in 1968
Don't you F*ckin' remember that !!!
That's what led Nixon to gain the President's office, TWICE !!!

We've been stuck in Afghanistan for 8yrs BECAUSE the Bush Administration deliberately never made any kind of strategy for this war - especially with too few troops available as compared to the Iraq war. Just so he could further spread the fear mongering they were so good at. They needed something to do after the Iraq war settled down.

Thankfully, we voted them out, but now we're stuck with the mess. Our all-volunteer military is the best at what they do. But if we keep holding them back -- as the Bush Admin did for the past 8yrs for political reasons -- then they can't finish the job.

We don't need more Troops - draft or otherwise - we need more military power in there !!!

Let Bill Moyers send his own kids and grandkids into that mess....Meanwhile people who know what they are talking about like Sen. Jim Webb continue to warn that we cannot just sit down on a hornet's nest....avenues other than sending are young people to be senselessly slaughtered must be pursued before we escalate this further. That is why so many of us voted for Obama and worked to get him elected: we thought he would stop this insanity!

What's wrong with the idea of bringing back the draft. Nothing. And this time no deferments for the Bush and Cheney types. Make it their war too, see if their willing to fight and die for it.

I don't want the draft brought back. My nephew just turned 21 and is a college junior, I don't want him going to war. He has his whole life in front of him. A friend's son was just shipped to Afghanistan, and he is scared shitless. While the president, I don't believe, can't just withdraw, I also don't see the point of sending more troops.
