Many Republicans, if you listened to the Sunday Chatter, tried their hardest to denounce or distance themselves from the rhetoric of Rush Limbaugh.
Limbaugh was the closing speaker at CPAC this weekend. He was supposed to speak for 20 minutes but went on for over a hour. The movement of many Republicans to move against Limbaugh is quite simple, polling numbers. The Republican Party is being viewed as not wanting to work with Barack Obama, being shown to be the party of NO, and is being framed as following the rhetoric of Rush Limbaugh. You can view Rush Limbaugh's speech to CPAC here.

Also, since when is a black man not truly "keeping it real" because he lacks "street cred"? Not all black people are from the ghetto! Not all black people are into hip-hop! Um, I don't think Obama is very "grassroots" by hip-hop definition, as a man from Hawaii who grew up with a white mother and whose skin color is owing to his Kenyan father. So is blackness defined merely by skin color or by culture? And I don't think we can point to any one culture as being "black culture." The fact that we are still so obsessed with color shows how incredibly backward American society really is in that regard. And I'm afraid Mr. Hughley and Chuck D. perpetuate this backwardness--at least in this interview they have.
Also, in terms of the GOP being insincere...yes, I think it has been in the past (same can be said for Dems)...but you can't just write it off being "insincere" and not support your claim. Hughley, however, seems to lack a real knowledge of the party. He commented that he felt excluded by the party. Well, that is probably true. But I wonder how much of this feeling of exclusion is more self-perception and based on stereotyping of the GOP. I doubt he'd feel too many bonds with the likes of Hilary Clinton, Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi and the other white elitists who currently head the democratic party. They might make a show of inclusion, but this is as far as it would go. Yeah, so they have a black man as President, but the party leaders are still overwhelmingly white. The liberals have long paid lip service to African Americans only because they want their votes.
Haha, this viewpoint might not be too popular on a site with "barack obama" in its title, but whatever! Oh, and btw, as a Republican, I embrace Limbaugh's speech as plain old good sense. And though I wouldn't go so far as to say that I hope Pres. Obama fails, I hope to see him curtail his INSANE budgetary proposals. A "milder" form did not work in the Great Depression and basically an opposite method did work under the Reagan administration in the 1980s. So I think dems would be wise to go with a tried and true method.
