President Obama announces new nuclear arms treaty with Russia

President Obama finalized a new arms control treaty with Russia on Friday that will pare back the still-formidable cold war nuclear arsenals of each country. The agreement brings to fruition one of the president’s signature foreign policy objectives, just days after he signed into law the most expansive domestic program in decades.

Ending a year of sometimes topsy-turvy negotiations, Mr. Obama and President Dmitri A. Medvedev of Russia sealed the deal in a morning telephone call, confirming resolution of the last outstanding details. They then announced they will fly to Prague to sign the treaty on April 8 in a ceremony designed to showcase improved relations between the two countries.

“With this agreement, the United States and Russia, the two largest nuclear powers in the world, also send a clear signal that we intend to lead,” Mr. Obama said, appearing in front of reporters at the White House to announce the agreement. “By upholding our own commitments under the nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, we strengthen our global efforts to stop the spread of these weapons, and to ensure that other nations meet their own responsibilities.”

Michelle Obama shot down Hillary Clinton as VP

Ah, it is book time.

Many books already have been written, with many more to come. New book, "Barack and Michelle: Portrait of an American Marriage," by author Christopher Andersen.

To be honest, after Hillary Clinton dragged out the primary and it did fracture the party, I am not surprised that Michelle Obama just said, "NO".

Andersen reports Michelle Obama shot down Hillary Clinton as a potential vice president, opting for Joe Biden. Michelle's opposition was possibly the deciding voice in the debate, Andersen writes.

"Do you really want Bill and Hillary just down the hall from you in the White House?" she reportedly told her husband. "Could you live with that?"

Then it appears that Michelle Obama was the one who convinced her husband the slogan, "Yes, We Can" will work. He did not like it initially, thought it was corny.

The President initially blanched when his now-famous campaign slogan was first introduced by political guru David Axelrod during the 2004 Illinois Senate race, a new book reports.

"I don't like it. Come on," Obama was quoted as saying in "Barack and Michelle: Portrait of an American Marriage," by author Christopher Andersen.

Obama felt the catch phrase was "childish" and "corny," and even asked his staff to find something else - until his wife, Michelle, convinced him otherwise, the book reports.

"It will work," she said, swaying the future President. "Trust me."

Freed journalists from North Korea (Videos)

Two American journalists freed by North Korea returned home to the United States on Wednesday for a jubilant, emotional reunion with family members and friends they hadn't seen in nearly five months.

The jet carrying Euna Lee and Laura Ling, reporters for Al Gore's San Francisco-based Current TV, and former President Bill Clinton arrived at Burbank's Bob Hope Airport at dawn. Clinton met with communist leader Kim Jong Il on Tuesday to secure the women's release.

The journalists were arrested near the North Korean-Chinese border in March while on a reporting trip for Current TV. read more here....

Encourage Pakistan as it confronts extremism

At a time when headlines are often depressing, the United States' growing relationship with India is welcome good news. Recent elections in both countries have provided our new governments with an opportunity to broaden our partnership and take on the world's most pressing challenges. President Obama and I are personally committed to this task, and I am working to advance this goal during my visit to New Delhi and Mumbai this week.

Our two countries are defined by their demography, their democracy, and their diversity. Together, they are home to almost one out of every four human beings on the planet. Our people share common interests, common values, and a common stake in the 21st century. We and the rest of the world have a lot to gain from our enhanced cooperation.

India's 6% growth rate is a bright spot amid the global economic downturn, and bilateral trade and investment flows between our nations have doubled in the last five years. Some Americans fear that greater partnership with India will mean lost jobs or falling wages in the United States. But if we manage our relationship well, both sides can benefit from India's economic progress.

The 300 million members of India's burgeoning middle class present a vast new market and opportunity. Our countries should work together to open that market and spread the benefits of sustainable prosperity.

We have a shared asset in this task. Millions of Indian-Americans are active throughout every sector of our society. And there are 90,000 Indian students in the United States. In medicine, finance, engineering, and education, these unofficial envoys can serve as a conduit for future collaboration.

But for the United States, India's ascent is more than an economic phenomenon. Our nations should also work together to address common challenges including security, non-proliferation, and climate change.

Our countries have experienced searing terrorist attacks. We both seek a more secure world for our citizens. We should intensify our defense and law enforcement cooperation to that end. And we should encourage Pakistan as that nation confronts the challenge of violent extremism. read more here....

Remember Sarah Palin said Hillary Clinton should not complain about media coverage? (Video)

This coming from a former VP candidate, who now says the media is too tough and bias towards her. Pot calling the kettle black? Absolutely.

NEWSWEEK: Sarah Palin, you are a Republican and a conservative one at that. It's unlikely that you and Hillary would agree on too many issues. But, yet, as a woman, chief executive—someone who's been through the grinder—when you look at the coverage and you listen to the conversations, what do you see?

Sarah Palin: Fair or unfair—and I do think that it's a more concentrated criticism that Hillary gets on so many fronts; I think that's unfortunate. But fair or unfair, I think she does herself a disservice to even mention it, really. You have to plow through that and know what you're getting into. I say this with all due respect to Hillary Clinton and to her experience and to her passion for changing the status quo. But when I hear a statement like that coming from a women candidate with any kind of perceived whine about that excess criticism or a sharper microscope put on her, I think, man, that doesn't do us any good. Women in politics, women in general wanting to progress this country, I don't think it bodes well for her, a statement like that. Because, again, fair or not fair it is there. I think it's reality and it's a given, people just accept that she's going to be under a sharper microscope. So be it. Work harder, prove to yourself to an even greater degree that you're capable, that you're going to be the best candidate. That's what she wants us to believe at this point. So it bothers me a little bit to hear her bring that attention to herself on that level.

FLOTUS, Michelle Obama unveils the bust of Sojourner Truth at the U.S. Captiol Visitors Center (Pictures)

Michelle Obama says she hopes abolitionist Sojourner Truth would be proud to see a descendent of slaves as America's first black first lady.

Mrs. Obama made the comment Tuesday as she helped unveil a bust of Truth, the first black woman to be honored with a statue at the Capitol.

"I am proud to be able to stand here on this day," the first lady told the audience of mostly women.

Truth is a former slave who met with Abraham Lincoln and was an early crusader for women's right to vote and an end to slavery.

Mrs. Obama said her two young daughters will now be able to "see the face of a woman who looks like them" when they visit the nation's Capitol.

The sculpture will remain on permanent display in the Capitol Visitor Center.
