Obama buys half-hour of network primetime

Barack Obama has purchased a half-hour of primetime television on CBS and NBC, sources confirm.

The Obama campaign is producing a nationwide pitch to voters that will air on at least two broadcast networks. The ad will run Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 8 p.m. -- less than a week before the general election.

The direct purchase of such a large block of national airtime right before an election used to be more commonplace before campaigns began to focus their end game strategies exclusively on battleground states. Such a move is not without precedent in modern presidential politics, however -- Ross Perot did a similar purchase in 1992.

The special is a smart move for the Obama campaign, said Larry Sabato, a political analyst and director of the Center of Politics at the University of Virginia.

"Obama's theme is not just change but unity, so he's appealing to the whole nation rather than a handful of toss-up states," Sabato said. "He wants to win the popular vote by a good margin, which will enable him to govern."

And he's got the cash for it, said Sabato.

"This is another indication, if there needs to be any more, that Barack Obama's got more money than [available] television time to buy," said Evan Tracey, COO of the Campaign Media Analysis Group in Arlington, Va.

Dow Jones drops 678 points

I don't like what the McCain Campaign is doing and their tactics are totally unacceptable, but I have total belief that Barack Obama will be the next POTUS.

Next, I have spoken to friends that are signing up to speak to representatives of their various 401Ks who are flying to companies all over this country to assure customers to hang in there, but there are many who cannot. One woman was ready to RETIRE, but now facing the hard reality that she CAN NOT because of the hard hit on her 401K. One man is in the "money market" 401K and cannot get a straight answer from his 401K provider, because as we know some are "secured" and some "are not".

I just heard Mike Barnacle on Race to the White House, give Tony Blankley his "you know what" served on a platter. The conversation was the "October Surprise" and Barnacle hinted at the collapse of General Motors down to $5.00 a share, and he believes the company will go into bankruptcy. Blankley pooh-pooh this off as nothing and Barnacle actually blew up and told him to wake up to reality. The names of Buick, Chevrolet, and Pontiac may be a memory and for a major car corporation to go into possible bankruptcy will kill McCain's chances.

This is on the minds of Americans not William Ayers. Not the ridiculous attempts and attack of Sarah Palin or the pathetic move to send your wife out to attack the other party's candidate. Weak.

When is McCain going to talk about the real issues? When is he going to be step up and give the American Public his vision? Why continue on this slippery slope of character attacks when folks can't get through to their 401K representatives to stop the bleeding on their accounts?

People are worried and I don't blame them. Many have their livelihood for the present and future tied up on Wall Street and they see it sinking like the Titanic sunk. These folks are not into William Ayes, Tony Rezko or the good Reverend; they are looking at their portfolio and crying in the envelope.

Finally, be warned that character attacks are for low information voters. The question is this, will they bite this time and vote against their economic interest and future. The jury is still out.
