The Obama Family Vacation Diggs on Martha's Vineyard

Blue Heron Farm: Obamas To Reportedly Rent Vineyard Vacation Home From Republicans

Here is the info on the Obama Family Vacation Diggs:

President Barack Obama and the First Family will rent the bucolic Blue Heron Farm off South Road in Chilmark for their vacation during the last week of August.

The 28.5-acre property some five hundred yards down Cobb’s Hill Road, spans the Chilmark and West Tisbury town line and overlooks Town Cove, the westernmost finger of the Tisbury Great Pond.

While the mechanics of renting the property were still ongoing at press time, the Gazette has learned that a rental agreement for the farm will comprise three leases, one to be held by the Obamas, another by the Secret Service and a third by a White House entourage.

The amount of the rental has not been disclosed, but up-Island properties similar to Blue Heron Farm rent for between $35,000 to $50,000 per week.

It is understood that the Obamas have treated the transaction as a standard Vineyard summer rental, from payment terms right down to questions about bringing the family dog. read more here...

The President, wearing a pink Hawaiian lei introduced members of his family – also in leis – and the newest member of the Obama family.

“The star of the family,” Obama called him, “Bo Obama.”

The President’s remarks were brief, just under two minutes and he wrapped up by thanking members of Congress for the “unbelievable work” they are doing for the American people.

The Obamas along with the families and the members of Congress, will enjoy a Hawaiian meal made by famed Hawaiian chef Alan Wong who was flown in for the event.

The menu: Wasabi potato salad, Farm green salad, Lomi Lomi salmon, Stuffed new potatoes, BBQ baby back ribs, Kalua Pig, Shrimp and clams, Tilapia tempura rolls, Crispy chicken hoagie, Grilled lamb chops. Spiced short ribs and Strawberry Tiramisu and Chocolate bars for dessert. read more here....

A must read, "Tiny Clues on Decorating the White House"

My new favorite blog, East Wing Rules has great insight on how Michelle Obama is crafting the personal space for the First Family. And Bo looks at home!!

Nancy Reagan was the last first lady to privately fundraise and spend time restoring and decorating Blair House which is across the street from the White House with the mission being the United States guest home for visiting Heads of State House. If anyone knows it is past time for several upgrades in those adjoining townhomes, it is the latest first lady. C'mon, a bed that needs an added section for the head of state if they are over six feet tall is just not appropriate. Michelle Obama ordered a beautiful antique bed for the White House and had it modified to Queen-sized for a comfortable night's rest. No idea who the lucky Obama is that sleeps in on that one.

We do know that Michael Smith of California received official status as Michelle Obama's interior designer in January. Laura Bush had Kenneth Blasingame of Texas and Hillary Clinton used Kaki Hockersmith of Arkansas. Nancy Reagan also had a California designer that indulged her taste for florals and wall paper with florals. Once every decade, Architectural Digest usually does a photo spread including parts of the private residence once significant work is accomplished by a first lady, the curator, the staff and the White House Historical Association after collaborated on significant refurbishing of state rooms. read more here.....

Will Bo Get White House Holiday Treatment?

East Wing Rules is becoming one of my favorite blogs right now, due to the witty writing of Maureen. I had to repost this piece because those who know me, knows that I am a huge animal lover, especially the 4 legged dog kind. As the Obamas are settling in with Bo and he with them, it is the First Lady that is doing all the duties. Malia? Sasha? What's up?

First ladies love their pets. According to her Thursday speech at the Hilton before 2000 spouses of congress members, Supreme Court justices, cabinet secretaries and other family and friends, Michelle Obama made it clear she was doing the o'dark thirty Bo walking. Her kids are getting good grades and hitting the snooze alarm as Mrs. Obama learns a new parenting/puppy lesson. Another first lady who loved her dog Millie enough to take dictation, translating dog bark into a book and bequeathing one of the 1989 puppies to her son W, liked the immortalized and sculpture technique proudly displayed in the Bush White House beneath her ground floor portrait. One way to pay pet tributes is during the Holidays, but the East Wing Staff needs a lot of prep time to execute the theme flawlessly.

Historic pet motifs arise out of past incidents, mischief or a loving theme to make interesting displays during the White House holiday season. Famed Pastry chef, Roland Mesnier created Socks, the cat, peeking from one of the White House windows in one of his exclusive gingerbread architectural wonders for a Clinton Christmas to showcase the White House. There is Nelson, George Washington's beloved Revolutionary War steed prancing above a Christmas garland bedecked mantle in the East Room. Calvin Coolidge of the Teapot Dome fiasco had a presidential pooch, Rob Roy with a proud lineage of sheep herding that turned into a quivering mass of NO when it came to riding the White House family elevator. But the most famous of their pets were Rebecca and Reuben, the family raccoons. read more here....

FLOTUS, Michelle Obama, Take Your Child to Work Day and Bo is CRAZY!! (Video)

First dog Bo is a "kind of crazy" puppy who likes to chew on people's feet, Michelle Obama told children visiting the White House on Thursday.

The first lady is spending a lot of time walking and training the 6-month-old Portuguese water dog who became a member of the president's family last week.

An energetic breed, Bo plays well into the night, as he did on Wednesday.

"It was like 10 o'clock. Everybody was asleep and we hear all this barking and jumping around," Mrs. Obama said. "The president and I came out and we thought somebody was out there. And it was just Bo. He was playing with his ball. And it was like there was another person in the house.

"He's kind of crazy, but he's still a puppy. So he likes to play a lot," she said.

The dog, unveiled last week after months of speculation, was a gift to Obama daughters Malia and Sasha.

"He loves to chew on people's feet," Mrs. Obama divulged to more than 100 children invited to a program marking the annual Take Your Child to Work Day.
