Gitmo goin' down, Obama to close it

Gitmo has been an embarrassment from start to finish. Obama, within his first week of office will issue an executive order to start the process of closing down Guantanamo Bay. Another reason for closing Gitmo does not take a rocket scientist to figure out, the whole operation of Gitmo has been a failure from beginning, up to now. We have detainees who have been just sitting there with no charges against them, some under suspect, some who probably or may have done something, but just a bunch of folks picked up because the US military did not understand the conditions, culture, and everything else about Arab culture. Lastly, if the guilt by association argument could be used, it was ratcheted up by throwing many behind bars in Gitmo.

President-elect Barack Obama is preparing to issue an executive order his first week in office — and perhaps his first day — to close the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, according to two presidential transition team advisers.

It's unlikely the detention facility at the Navy base in Cuba will be closed anytime soon. In an interview last weekend, Mr. Obama said it would be "a challenge" to close it even within the first 100 days of his administration.

But the order, which one adviser said could be issued as early as Jan. 20, would start the process of deciding what to do with the estimated 250 al Qaeda and Taliban suspects and potential witnesses who are being held there. Most have not been charged with a crime.

Does Bush & Co. like this move? I don't think so, after watching Bush's last presser, he was highly upset and all over the place trying to defend his disastrous legacy as President of the United States.
