Dr. Jill Biden is back in the classroom

After all the negative news, it is nice to see that Jill Biden has not abandoned the community college.

Dr. Biden, who holds a doctorate in education from the University of Delaware, went quietly to work on Tuesday in a new job as an adjunct professor at Northern Virginia Community College. She has a part-time arrangement with the college and will teach two English courses for a total of 10 credit hours this semester, according to her spokeswoman, Courtney O’Donnell.

“I am thrilled to return to the classroom to continue working with community college students, whom I greatly admire and enjoy teaching,’’ Dr. Biden said in a statement, adding, “I am pleased that I can make a difference by doing what I love to do, teaching people who are excited to learn.’’

Dr. Biden, who has been a teacher for 28 years, is one of the few vice-presidential spouses to hold a job outside the White House. Lynne Cheney, wife of former Vice President Dick Cheney, worked as a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative research institution, and wrote several books during her husband’s tenure. Lady Bird Johnson supervised her Texas broadcasting company while her husband was vice president.
